I wouldn't even know where to begin trying to identify this but thought it looked super cool! Each strand was about an inch or two long and had a little black cap. Found in the forest in Haida Gwaii, British Columbia (Canada)

Pilophorus, aka matchstick lichens, are easily recognized by their stalked, black fruiting bodies. Their are a few species native to BC, and my guess would be P. acicularis (aka devil's matchsticks) based off of the length of the pseudopodetia (stalks) and the shape of the apothecia (the black caps).
A good place to start for lichen ID is iNaturalist! There you can upload your pictures, get ID suggestions, and crowd source for more exact identifications. Plus your information can then be used to further our knowledge of lichen distributions and habitat preferences. Highly recommend!
