OMG it's architecture!!! I feel silly for missing that but WOW that's a hell of a complex process. and that's *so many programs that's BANANAS*. Of COURSE I wanna know more yet, and for sure I would love to see that video but I know video making is harder than it looks so don't worry if its too much!! Thank you for such a detailed answer!! also that building is *so cool* and I don't even know half of what's happening in it it's *incredible*.
hey yea well you’re right making a video takes time but also drawing itself is very long and complex so. i have started making it, couple of things i wanted to do, and show how to do. but, first, i just show how i have fun in autocad :P
since i quite like lestallum i have chosen this particular favourite building of mine
i have taken several shots of its northern facade and used used automate -> photomerge tool in photoshop to make it into one image. i think this building is quite interesting and also would be fun to draw and render. i start with uploading this image to autocad as a reference and start drawing over it
i use thick yellow line as my base and then just assign the lines different colours later. here is a short gif drawing the window
once i finish drawing i assign every line its colour which becomes of different thickness later. but in this case i just draw a facade (not a section) so there’re no walls i’m cutting through, all lines are pretty much the same thickness.
close up
exported version looks like this. just lines…..
this is a very long and boring process though, drawing plans, sections, facades. it’s a job usually given to interns :D i did this quickly because i didn’t follow the exact measurements, if i had to do it irl i’d have to take a lot more pics of reference and measure all the widths, lenghts etc. and draw them very precise, that’s kind of the point. but, i was lazy also it doesn’t matter since i’m just showing an example. no one will know that i just traced over a photograph (i hope no one does it this way!!!! lol)
i’m thinking of drawing this building in 3d, i quite like it and it will be a good study anyway. this weekend, if i have time, i can draw a 3d model of it and then render it, maybe in photoshop, for the video. since vray render is kinda long&boring and not fun to look at :P
p.s. i know i have listed a lot of programs, but not all of them are like, drawing software. usually i use autocad for technical drawings like plans§ions, photoshop for renders, illustrator is for vector graphics like graphs, diagrams, etc. and indesign is for making books, portfolios, presentations. sketchup and revit are 3d modelling programs. and vray is for render.
