Badass Mythical Women and Creatures → Pincoya
In Chilote mythology, Pincoya is a water spirit of the Chilotan Sea. She is said to have long, blonde hair and be very sensual and cheerful in nature. She is usually seen in the nude as she rises from the ocean depths, and has incomparable beauty. According to other legends, Pincoya is the daughter of Millalobo (king of the sea), as well as the sister of Sirena chilota and Pincoy (who is also her husband). With her siblings, Pincoya leads the drowned to The Caleuche, a ghost ship around the island of Chiloé. Once there, the drowned can resume an existence like life, and enjoy the parties the ship is known for.
Pincoya controls the outcome of the day’s fishing. If she performs her ritual dance toward the sea, the fish will be plentiful. If she performs her ritual dance toward the shore and away from the sea, the fish will be scarce.
