Three views of the Pine fire in Los Angeles County.

Remote sensing of a fire involves using multiple tools and models, and many are imprecise or give different information, and the interpretation and understanding is a skill that takes a long time to perfect.

These three images show the same fire at the same time, the left shows the broad blocky pixels of a GOES heat signature, the middle shows the Fireguard and multiple sensors like VIIRS and Modis which is more precise than GOES, and the one on the right shows the WiFire model of what was expected to happen if no firefighting intervention occurred.
