jask and yen talk? 🥺🥺🥺
i love them so much, here’s a bit after Jaskier’s first magic lesson:
Later, Jaskier will blame his exhaustion for the questions he asked of Yennefer that night. The two were sitting around their fire, simply looking into the flames. It was silent as Jaskier could not bring up the energy required to play. He could however muster up the energy to speak.
"Do you miss him?" he asks.
She levels a suspicious look at him. "Why do you ask?"
"Well, you said the only reason you stopped last night was because you knew my song was about him. And you haven't seen him in as long as I have and I miss him so I figured you would too."
She doesn't respond.
"Gods, what did I do in this life to get saddled with two people who seem to think emotions are below them? You went on today about how emotions and magic are linked and yet you won't admit you have them yourself."
"I have emotions, bard," she growls at him. "I just have none left for him."
Jaskier shrugs, undeterred by her hostility. "Look you're more than allowed to be angry at him or cut him out for the awful things he said; something about you wanting a baby? I just thought you might like to talk about it with someone who understands."
"And what do you understand, bard?" She's hunched in on herself, pulling her cloak more surly around her shoulders and very clearly not meeting his eyes.
It gives Jaskier courage to press on. If she truly wanted him to shut up, she would have had no trouble accomplishing it. Perhaps she really did want to talk through her Geralt troubles just as much as he did.
"I understand that Geralt said some hurtful things to us on that mountain. I understand that you said some hurtful things back. But if Geralt showed up tomorrow and told me he was sorry, I'd take him back."
Yennefer snorts. "I can't picture him apologizing."
"Exactly! Can you imagine? The shock alone would probably be enough to make me forget every rude thing he's ever said to me." Jaskier laughs.
She looks over at him quizzically. "What did he say to you?"
Jaskier shrugs. "Just that I was the reason for every problem he's ever had. And while I admit he wouldn't have been at the banquet if I hadn't brought him along, it was his decision to ask for the Law of Surprise despite having just watched the magic destiny bullshit that will happen if you try and cast it aside." He looks over to her again. "Why were you two yelling about children of all things anyway?"
"I want a child," Yennefer states simply.
"Why?"
"I don't need to explain myself to you."
