This is my very lazily made Crittersona!! Their name is Eggo.

They’re a pink blob who can take on the shape of anything and anyone.

However, they prefer to resemble their favourite comrade; Bobby Bearhug!!

(Their pendant isn’t a real technical pendant. It’s just an egg necklace that Kickin gave them.)

style analysis - the virgin suicides !!

“It didn't matter in the end how old they had been, or that they were girls, but only that we had loved them, and that they hadn't heard us calling”

the virgin suicides is a 1993 novel written by author Jeffrey Eugenides, the novel was adapted into a 1999 film by Sofia Coppola.

the film follows the lives of five sisters during the mid 70’s, from the perspective of a group of adolescent boys in the neighbourhood who obsess over them, the girls are their idea of femininity, their fantasy of young ‘perfect’ girls.

Oh, virgin suicides. babydoll dresses, virgin mary cards, pink lipstick, lollipops, dusky florals, bell sleeves, pastels, knee socks, lace, cardigans, innocence.

soaked in warm tones and femininity, soft and delicate.  Laying around in grass fields and listening to records in their teen dream room. they’re everything a boy wants.

if you’ve ever watched the movie you know the aesthetic in it, I don’t even think I need to say anything. it’s basically the og coquette.

“Their outfits demonstrate the extreme poles of dress that defined the choice of teenage fashion in the 70s: demureness versus skimpiness, or the fabric of innocence against emerging sexuality”.

About their style:

the girls live in a religious catholic household. their parents were strict enough already, after the youngest sister Cecilia attempt suicide, their parents become way over-protective.

that’s why their outfits are always long and puffy, even on school they wear long skirts that goes pass their knees. We never actually see them in something “scandals”. Even when we see Lux with a bikini, you still assume she’s a “good girl”.

to prom they all wear long white floral dresses that goes completely down to their feet. it’s looks honestly like a weeding dress. And I think that’s what the costume designer tried to show.

We can also see that with the color palette. we see them wear pastel colors, and most of the time they wear white. which supposed to show their “innocence”, and them being virgins.

Modern adaptation:

I honestly don’t think you need to change a lot in this style for it to be “okay” in 2021. It’s pretty timeless and I love it for it.

I do think you can make it less strict and pale. More interesting. for example you can add some jewelry, If you want to fit the “theme”, you can even wear a cross necklace. I think it adds a bit flavor.

also, you can show some skin, it’s okay. I think it’s amazing that today we can wear a lot more then we used to, I also think if they lived today, they would def keep this style but and make it more fun (especially lux). You can make the dresses a bit shorter, and you can wear a low cut top and still rock this look, I promise.

I honestly love the virgins suicides with my entire heart. Such a good novel, such a good movie. I know a lot about it so if have any questions feel free to ask.
