“Are you sure that’s healthy?” Rus worried from his spot near the fire as Cash ate a raw fish. “I’m sure it’s better if you cook it.”
“Ever heard’a sushi?” Cash asked.
“I don’ think tha’s the same.” Twist pointed out. Cash just shrugged in response.
“So are you two a thing or?” Hickory asked pointing to Pink and Cash. Cash opened his mouth to answer but was cut off by pink.
“Absolutely not. I am merely here to protect the king.” Pink bashed. Cash got up and stretched.
“Well this saving the world business is hard work, I'm gonna head to bed.” He sighed, getting a chorus of good nights. Twist soon followed, Edge having fallen asleep first
“What’s in the bag?” Rus asked looking at the bag Pink was holding in his hands. “I never noticed it before.”
“It’s nothing!” Pink blurted.
“Doesn’t sound like nothing.” Hickory smirked.
“If you must know it’s herbs for treatments.” Pink replied turning up his nose.
“Awful small bag for herbs.” Hickory protested.
“They’re powdered herbs it’s common in our culture.” Pink said trying to divert the attention. Hickory was about to protest when Rus hit him in the side.
“Welp a day’s in the working as I always say.” Hickory yawned heading to sleep as well.
“You never say that.” Rus pointed out. Rus and Pink sat in silence the only two left awake.
“It’s not herbs.” Pink mumbled after a few minutes of silence.
“Hm?” Rus hummed looking at Pink.
“The, the bag. It’s not herbs.” Pink confessed.
“Then what’s in it?” Rus asked.
“Dust.” Pink whispered softly.
“Oh, I’m so sorry. Were they close?” Rus asked. Pink nodded slowly.
“She was our baby.”
“Pink, I’m so sorry, does… ?” Rus looked over at Cash questioningly.
“He knows.” Pink sighed.
“What happened?” Rus asked.
“It was before Cash became king. We were dating and we decided to have a baby. And we did. But one night I had woken up and this was all I found left.” Pink sniffed as he wiped his eyes.
“You didn’t stay together?” Rus wondered looking worried.
“A king deserves a queen that can produce suitable heirs. Otherwise they are useless.” Pink sighed looking down.
“Pink I’m sure Cash doesn’t feel the same way.” Rus consoled scooting closer.
“It doesn’t matter what he feels. He needs to serve his people.” Pink argued.
“So you’re just going to give up your happiness?” Rus asked. Pink nodded.
“Pink you can’t give that up just because of one mistake.” Rus protested.
“What am I supposed to do then? Be a failure of a queen.” Pink asked.
“You’re supposed to be happy.” Rus smiled softly.
“Happiness doesn’t compare to duty.” Pink stated.
“Duty and happiness are not the same.” Rus pointed out.
“Exactly.” Pink frowned. Rus sighed in exasperation.
“Just, try and prove me wrong.” Rus challenged.
“What?” Pink asked picking up his head to look at Rus.
“Prove me wrong. Prove that he doesn’t still care about you.” Rus smirked.
“How?” Pink wondered.
“However you can.” Rus smiled.
“What’s in it for me.” Pink squinted his eyes.
“If you win, you both can go home and live your life just as you were.” Rus smirked as pinked flinched at the idea.
“And if you win?” Pink asked.
“You being wrong about love is good enough.” Rus mused.
“Fine deal.” Pink agreed shaking Rus’s hand.
“Well I wouldn’t want to keep you and your hubby waiting.” Rus smiled as pink blushed, “Good night Pink.”
“Night.” Pink muttered back. As Rus laid down by Edge Pink settled himself by Cash laying down but not touching.
“Y’know he’s right.” Cash whispered shifting to hold Pink from behind.
“What?” Pink yelled but was shushed by Cash.
“Rus’s right. I still care about you, and our baby girl.” Cash sighed bringing his hand up to hold Pinks over the bag.
“A king-”
“Deserves a suitable queen. I know, I know.” Cash bickered. “But a king deserves a queen that would love him.”
“A king needs a queen to produce heirs.” Pink protested.
“Do you think Edge feels that way?” Cash asked.
“What?” Pink mumbled back confused.
“Do you think Edge feels that way about Rus?” Cash asked again.
“We aren’t them, and he’s not king.” Pink pointed out.
“Answer the question.” Cash growled.
“No.” Pink sighed curling up more as the crisp wind picked up. Cash wrapped more of his body around him.
“Then it’s the same for us.” Cash hummed lightly nuzzling his face into the back of Pinks neck. Then he was out like a light.
“I guess I lose.” Pink smiled looking over at Rus.
