Piolang 24K Gold Wrapping Mask Review

24 Karat magic in the airrrrr~! ♫

So how fancy is it to actually put gold on your face? I mean.. it's pretty extra but I gotta admit that it’s something I’ve been wanting to try ever since I knew about it in 2015. K-friends from work told me how Gold mask packs have been selling like hotcakes in Korea. 

So yes, I’m back with another K-Beauty review and it’s the 24K Gold Mask from the Korean brand called Piolang. I got this mask from one of my favorite K-Beauty websites of all time, Twofacemall.com. 

The brand claims that it contains pure edible gold (they even have a certificate to prove that). Well, Gold in skincare isn’t entirely new but as usual, them Koreans have taken the concept to a whole new level.

This gold mask is specifically formulated to have gold ions activated in your skin to brighten and even out your complexion. It contains 100ppm of gold which were intricately extracted by highly-skilled craftsmen from Korea. According to the website, the gold ions in the mask are pretty comparable to very light voltage. These gold ions help infuse all the nutrients deep within the skin to make it look radiant and plump right after use.

TEXTURE:

It has a very watery texture. As a matter of fact, there’s a bit of spill that made its way out of the jar when I got it. Apparently, it’s a usual problem for others too because I’ve seen several reviews online that had the same experience. All the items in my box are perfectly bubble-wrapped so I believe the problem is with the jar itself.

The gold mask came with a spatula but I’m afraid it’s pretty useless. As the texture is too watery, scooping it out using the spatula included is just plain mess. I use a mask pack brush for this one instead.

With the help of a mask brush, the product can be spread evenly onto the face effortlessly. I try to apply a thick layer in order for me to peel it easily. It takes 15 to 20 minutes to fully dry which is pretty normal for me. As the mask dries, it gives off a very relaxing cooling sensation all while smelling really good! I’m a huge fan of cooling masks so having it on my skin for 15 minutes is considered short!

MY THOUGHTS:

I use the Piolang 24K Gold mask 2~3x a week. I really love the cooling effect it gives on the skin. In addition, it’s immensely hydrating as well. After peeling the mask off my skin, I can really tell that my skin feels soft, smooth and hydrated. It’s moisturizing in a way that I can really feel it in my skin and not just because there’s serum dripping all over my face. 

The only thing that turns me off is the gold shimmers. I mean.. alright, I love shimmers in general but not in skincare products. Upon peeling the mask off, there’s just too much glitter sitting on my skin. For me, it feels like a way of making the skin look instantly radiant in a very trying-hard manner. Without the gold shimmers, the mask is amazing on its own.

I’ve been using this for a few weeks now and it didn’t give me any acne breakouts. Some peel-off masks gave me a bit of stinging sensation but this 24K Gold mask from Piolang did not. Did it brighten my complexion? It’s too early to say but it definitely makes my skin look moist after peeling it off (hello Korean dewy skin!!)

Review: Piolang 24K Gold Wrapping Mask

Today I’ll be sharing a review on the Piolang 24K Gold Wrapping Mask. This mask is taking the korean beauty market by storm! As boasted on the Althea Korea website, this mask has been raved about by a lot of celebrities because it claims to give you softer, more youthful looking skin. You’d have a 24K worth skin with just one use! I’m one to get into all the hypes and crazes in the beauty world so I knew I had to give this a try and see how it works for me. 

 The packaging has this Egyptian vibe going on and apparently, it’s because Cleopatra, queen of Egypt, used gold masks all the time. No wonder she always looked so youthful. Most of the text on the box are in Korean so I had to research what the ingredients and the directions for application were.

It contains 99% pure gold extracts, Korean snail extract, seaweed extract, white willow leaf extract, and jojoba seed oil (these are the only ones I could find in English. Cr. Althea Korea website). 

DETAILS: So the mask comes in a black glass tub with a spatula. There’s 80mL of product and it’s of a golden liquid consistency. When I say it’s liquid, it’s really liquid. It’s runny which makes it a little bit difficult to apply. It doesn’t have a scent but it looks a lot like molten gold. I got this for ₱760 from the Althea Korea Ph website.

After cleansing my face, I applied a thin layer of the product and waited for it to dry. It took me about 10 minutes before it completely dried. I waited another 5 minutes before I peeled it off. When pealing, it’s suggested to start from the bottom but I think starting anywhere is fine just be quick and gentle.

It dries into this rubber texture and you can easily take of the mask in one move.

My thoughts on this:

After putting on the mask, there was this immediate cooling effect which was quite relaxing. It dried on pretty quickly and there was no burning sensation or irritation on my skin. With just one use, I didn’t really notice a big difference. My face looked a little bit more pinkish and it felt softer. I guess I need to try this more to see if anything changes more than what it already did.

Verdict: 6/10. I liked this product and I intend to use it more to see up to what extent it can make a change. It feels like a princess product and it feels nice to have on your vanity. However, if you’re looking for something instant with really noticeable changes, I don’t recommend buying this. If you’re willing to wait though, you could go and purchase this and see how much it does for you.
