Mulder is turned on, Scully is grimacing

I was wondering why we get a rare Scully laugh and smile here (even Mulder is surprised!), and a quip that could be read as just as affectionate as it could be teasing, "I'm constantly amazed by you..."

Especially because she enters the scene so upset, having just been given the news that the investigation into her sister's murder has been made inactive (notably refusing to tell Mulder this, of course)...

And that it's "a case of manpower and workload". How devastating and infuriating for her, knowing the tools at the FBI's disposal... but there aren't enough people who care about her sister's death to keep up the fight.

But then, a scene later, enter Mulder ... and Mulder cares. That's his whole thing. He'll turn over every pebble, read every transmission, sift through the garbage forever to find the truth and make things right. And that's what Scully likes so very much about him.

3x15: Piper Maru

A French diving crew is is affected by a bizarre illness after the diver discovers WWII wrecked plane deep underwater. Mulder and Scully investigate the source of this illness and the remaining diver.

Skinner tells Scully that her sister's case has been made inactive - she's very emotional and frustrated

Scully returns to the military base where she grew up, relives memories with her sister

Scully's family friend reveals story about how radiation from "weapon" killed most of his crew

Mulder goes to Hong Kong and finds Krycek is the one selling government secrets from the tape

The "black oil" jumps from Gauthier, to his wife, and then to Krycek

Skinner is shot for appealing to reopen Melissa's case :(

Watch it? Yes, we're back to some mythology and we get to see a little bit about Scully's childhood while she grieves her sister. Skinner "stands on business" here where he really tries to do the right thing for Scully. Also, I love to see Mulder manhandle ratboy Krycek.
