'Time for another exhausting day at work.' Was the only thought that floated in Piper's mind as she dragged her feet on the sidewalk toward the radio station. It was early in the morning, with coffee in her hand, and bags under her eyes. As of right now, she didn't look like much of a morning person; However, her co-workers would ask her every morning how she was always so awake. The truth of he matter? She wasn't, she just knew how to act awake. As she walked up to the station doors, it was that time of the morning to put on her mask.
"Here we go, Pipes" She mumbled to herself before putting a grin on her face, opening the door, and walking inside. "Mornin' Tony." She chimed as she passed by one of her co-workers, a lanky ginger who looked like he could sunburn quite easily for someone who grew up in the desert. As if right on cue, he asked the question, "Piper, how are you so awake in the morning? You aren't on those Strexcorp. Happy pill things, are you?" He asked, raising an eyebrow to which Piper just shook her head. "Nope! My methods are a secret," Her methods were faking it.
She made her way to the reception desk and placed her coffee on the surface, ready to hop over it like she did every morning. "Uh, Piper you might not want to do--" Tony attempted to warn her, but it was too late. Piper gracefully hopped over the desk like a gymnastics floor horse, and as she looked down to make her landing on the other side, all she could she was a gaping hole on the floor with swirling black energy. Surprise! A vortex! One that definitely hadn't been there when she left work yesterday. Now, there was nothing keeping her from falling inside. "SHIT!" She shouted, her voice echoing as she was finally sucked up by the portal. Tony let out a sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose, showing no concern for his co-worker. "Nice last words, Piper, real classy." He droned before turning and walking down the hall, "Guess I gotta tell Cecil to make the announcement. Another intern dead. At least it's not me."
She wasn't dead, at least, not yet. Merely knocked out at the moment. She stirred slightly when she felt a droplet of water on her face, then another, then another. Her eyes snapped open to look up at the sky, dark grey, looked like it would start pouring buckets any second. Quickly she sat up, and saw she was in the middle of some road. "Well where the hell did you toss me now, Night Vale?" She mumbled to herself, then quickly getting to her feet. No sense in staying in one place, her best option was to figure out where she was. She started to walk down the road, and at some point it did start raining, pouring buckets just as she predicted.
After a little more walking, she found something rather interesting. A Castle. "Because an eerie castle is completely normal." She commented to herself sarcastically. Even so, she didn't have many options. It was getting late, the rain wasn't letting up at all, and she was freezing cold, soaked to the bone, with no where else to go. She glanced at the sign that read enter at your own risk, but took little time to consider the warning before squeezing through the gate. She hurried to the front door and knocked, hoping someone would answer quickly.
