Headcanon for pirate-era Hetalia is that both Antonio and Arthur were “marked” by each other during the Anglo-Spanish Wars. Antonio lost a leg to Arthur when England defeated the Spanish Armada in 1588. But he paid it back in full a year later by slashing out Arthur’s eye when Spain defeated England in 1589.

The loss of their respective armadas was such a big blow to Spain and England that the wounds left on their national personifications took years to heal. To the extent that their peoples had started to worry they were permanent. That Spain would be a country that limped and England one half-blinded for the rest of their days. Even now, in a time when their once deep held enmity has turned to warmer feelings, Antonio still sometimes feels a sharp twinge in his leg and Arthur a maddening itch in the back of his eye when the other is close. Particularly if they happen to be near the sea

I’ve been seeing a lot of pirate chatter on my dash lately and it reminded me of that time Hima drew what was maybe the 2p allies and one of the possibilities for China looked like a pirate. I colored it years ago and decided to try redrawing it.

Aph Belgium as a pirate

Imagine this;

Aph Belgium’s bored out her mind in the late 17th century when an opportunity presents itself. As fate would have it a certain English pirate happens to dock in Belgium and a plan starts to form. If there’s one nation that she could pass for it’s England, they both have blonde hair, green eyes and similar complexions and with the right clothes no one would question. So then begins the plan of commandeering England’s ship.

Now imagine:

APH BELGIUM IN ENGLANDS RED PIRATE GETUP

Just picture her carrying herself with all that cocky confidence of teenage Arthur and tell me that isn’t amazing.

And if all that is not good enough, picture aph Belgium charming Aph England out of his clothes, only to steal his outfit, his ship and his pride.
