AUSTEROS STREAM DELICATELY BALANCED EP ‘I’VE GOT THIS’ AHEAD OF FRIDAY RELEASE
I’ve Got This is a tender self-love song sandwiched between two shots of pure pop-punk energy.
Just as long as it needs to be and no longer the 5-track EP is 4 parts caffeine, 1 part cream (is it very obvious I don’t know anything about coffee?). Between buoyant opener To Be You and deceivingly upbeat breakup track Dead Cells, you’d be forgiven for some level of surprise at a mid-record acoustic number.
But complete with un-edited studio noises and what I think might be an accordion, Cherished, is in fact a lovely break. ‘I’ve got this / I am worthy of being happy’ asserts vocalist Jeremy Pitcher in between gentle croons and the soft plink of a keyboard.
The final two tracks, including previously live-sessioned Figure Of Speech, pick up the pace again. Closer Island, which embodies AUSTERO’s frustration with their hometown and desire to move away, is about as classic as it gets and has an earworm of a hook in ‘Now I’m making plans’. Seriously, we’re never getting this one out of our heads.
I’ve Got This is available now on a streaming and ‘pay what you want’ basis through the Bristol trio’s Bandcamp before a full release tomorrow (14th April).
