How Animation Discourse Can Feel At Times: The Complete Collection
this is incredibly niche, but what did you expect me to think after watching a movie about forbidden, never-before-seen love that is potentially life threatening to those involved?
I'm starting to miss Elemental a little
I doubt it will ever become a hyperfixation of mine in a long time, but I still can't help but feel a lot of affection for that movie every time I think about it
Flames.
This is for everyone who wanted to see Ember and Wade in the chest meme. :D
I'd like to know what happened one generation before this that caused all the story messages to be "you should be whatever you want to be--as long as it's a position of power and authority."
what goes on?
Why'd we go from messages like "if you really want to live your dream it'll cost you everything," or "true love is innocent and pure" or "don't judge a book by its cover" to variations on:
"Be whatever you want to be: and want to be powerful."
And then second of all, I'm bored. I'm tired of having twenty stories that tell me I don't have to be what everyone around me tells me to be. I'm tired of having every movie tell me that I am powerful and I should be in authority.
I got it, I heard you the first forty times, Barbie, Across the Spider-Verse, Elemental, even freakin Super Mario Bros.
Now tell me something different. Something I can actually appreciate or chew on or use to be better. That's enough "write your own story, be who you want to be, choose what you are, become your own power--" That's enough.
