You’re sitting there with the brush in your hand, staring at nothing.
You drag it through your hair once. It catches. You sigh and stop, shoulders slumping like the effort alone was too much.
He watches you for a second before stepping closer. “Here,” he says softly, taking the brush from your fingers. You don’t even protest.
He moves behind you, close enough that you can feel him there, and starts brushing your hair for you. Slow, deliberate strokes. He’s careful where it tangles, easing through instead of pulling, pausing whenever you shift like you might tip over.
Your head dips forward without you realizing. He steadies you with his other hand, thumb resting lightly at the back of your neck.
“Still tired,” he murmurs, more observation than comment.
You hum, eyes closing. The quiet rhythm of the brushing makes it harder to stay awake, each pass smoothing more than just your hair. He takes his time, like there’s nowhere else he needs to be yet.
When he finishes, he runs the brush through one last time, neat and gentle. His hand lingers for a second, resting against your head, grounding.

you chuckled, threading your fingers through his messy orange hair. "you were only gone for a few days."
"exactly. too long." he tightened his hold on you as if you’d slip away the moment he let go. "it sucked not having you there."
it wasn’t often akito got this clingy, but tonight he was relentless. his arms stayed locked around your waist, his leg tangled with yours, and every time you shifted, he pulled you right back against him with a dramatic groan. his usual sharp-tongued self had melted into something softer, more affectionate, something he rarely let anyone else see.
"next time, you’re coming with me," he muttered. "or i’m not going."
you snorted. "you’d actually ditch a performance just because i’m not there?"
"i mean-" he huffed, looking up at you with those olive-green eyes, the hint of a pout forming on his lips. "okay, maybe not, but i’d be real damn miserable."
his phone buzzed against the sheets, and with a reluctant sigh, he reached for it, only to immediately turn the camera on you.

you didn’t know when it had started. the terrible, overwhelming noise. an hour ago, or two, or even at the very start of the day? it didn’t matter now. all you thought of was your pain as you sat huddled under the desk. shaking like a leaf.
someone help me…
your classmates might walk in at any second, and the very thought of that terrified you. they’d probably laugh and ridicule you badly, making this situation worse and worse than it already was.
oh god… oh god… what do i do?
“oi!”
you visibly flinched at the voice. who was this?.. no matter. he sounded angry, and that alone made your heartbeat quicken.
a pause. you curled up tighter around yourself.
“y/n, are you okay?”

this time, he sounded much less scary.

the stammering slipped your mouth before you could stop it.

in the end, you didn’t have the heart to fight his kindness.
“there. is that better?” he asked.
you nodded, wiping at your tears.

“what for?”
“for being nice to me.”
akito grimaced. then, with great effort, he eased back into a softer expression.
“that’s the bare minimum. i saw you crying — heck, you were bawling your eyes out and panicking — so of course my first instinct was to help,” he said.
“hm,” you said.
“listen… i have no idea what’s got you so worked up, but it’ll be okay. yes, it’ll be okay. okay? there.”
your heart was practically melting. really, to you such kindness was a rarity. something truly precious. you were still hurting inside, but at the same time his very words were enough to ground you a little.
before long you realized your tears had stopped falling, so you couldn’t help but smile softly.
“this is so embarrassing,” you muttered sheepishly.
“believe me, i know what you mean.”
akito got up.
“but you’re already feeling a little better, right?”
“i think so,” you replied.
“that’s good.”
for a moment, you just sat in silence. it wasn’t particularly uncomfortable or awkward; you were still just processing your earlier emotions.
“sorry for the trouble,” you said eventually.
“i already told you, there’s no need to thank me or anything like that.”
he smiled.

“you wanna go for ice cream now? our paths home from school are quite similar, anyway,” he mused.
