“Can you get her a bottle?” Patrick said as he carried his niece. The little girl was about two years old and ready for a nap, her head resting heavily against his shoulder while he rubbed her back as he walked towards me.
We had been staying at Patrick’s family’s lake house for about a week now, and my baby fever was beyond sky-high after watching him with all of these kids and seeing how naturally good he was with them.
I walked into the kitchen, grabbing a bottle out of the cabinet and carefully measuring out the right water-to-formula ratio before placing it in the bottle warmer.
“Are you tired, Mia?” I softly rubbed her little hand, making the baby yawn against his chest, her chubby cheeks squishing adorably.
I smiled, quickly snapping a picture of them together on my phone before turning back around. I grabbed the bottle, gave it a thorough shake, and tested a few drops on my wrist to make sure it wasn’t too hot. When I held the bottle out, Mia lifted her head and looked over at Patty. He gently took it from my hand and walked back outside to feed her on the shaded daybed.
I followed right behind him, but before I could even make it off the patio, one of his nephews came sprinting toward me.
“Y/N!” Carter, the three-year-old, cried out, wrapping his arms around my legs.
I immediately scooped him up into my arms. “What’s the matter, baby?” I gently wiped his tears as he clung to me, holding up his hand to show me a tiny scrape on his finger.
“Boo-boo,” his lips pouted, his lower lip trembling.
I rocked him softly and carried him inside, sitting him up on the kitchen island. I grabbed the first-aid kit from the cabinet, gently cleaned the minor scratch, and applied a colorful superhero band-aid. Pressing a soft kiss right over the bandage, I whispered, “All better,” which finally coaxed a small, half-shy smile out of the little boy.
After quickly tidying up the supplies, I carried Carter back outside toward the daybed where Patty was currently feeding Mia.
“What’s up, buddy?” Patty asked, his tone instantly shifting to concern when he noticed Carter’s still-watery eyes.
“Boo-boo,” Carter proudly showed off his bandaged finger.
“He had a little cut, but we made it all better,” I said, giving Carter a reassuring hug.
Not far away, huddled near the patio table, some of Patrick’s family members were quietly chatting.
“Look at Patty, he’s total dad material,” his cousin whispered, earning an immediate nod of agreement from one of his aunts.
“I know, I never thought I’d see him act so naturally with babies,” she added, smiling fondly.
“And look at Y/N,” Patrick’s mom chimed in, her voice lowering just a bit. “I honestly hope they get to making babies soon. They'd be so good at it.”
“Play!” Carter demanded suddenly, scrambling off my lap.
I smiled as Patrick carefully handed a drowsy, milk-drunk Mia over to me. Her bottle was completely empty, and her eyelids were already drooping. I cradled the sleeping toddler softly against my shoulder, while Patty stood up and let Carter drag him toward the lawn to play. I stood nearby, watching them and making sure to keep my movements quiet so I wouldn't wake up Mia.
Carter grabbed a pair of mini hockey sticks, using Patrick as his personal goalie. I cheered them on in a quiet whisper, giggling to myself as Patrick dramatically flopped onto the grass every time Carter managed to score goal.
As the sun began to dip lower, casting a golden hue over the lake, Carter and Mia were finally carried inside for a proper nap. The house grew wonderfully quiet, leaving Patrick and me completely alone on the spacious outdoor daybed, tangled up together in the cushions.
“Finally got my man back,” I joked softly, throwing one leg lazily over his lap and resting my head against his chest so I could press a light kiss to his neck.
“Your man never left,” he murmured against my hair, dropping a warm kiss onto the top of my head.
“You know, you looked too hot in dad mode today,” I teased, lifting my head up to look right into his eyes.
“What can I say? The kids practically worship me,” he joked back with a cocky grin.
I playfully swatted his chest. “Stop it,” I laughed.
He caught my hand, pulling me down for a slow, lingering kiss. When he finally pulled back, his expression softened, his arms wrapping tightly around my waist to keep me flush against him. “Thank you, baby. You looked incredible with them, too.”
I traced lazy circles against the fabric of his shirt with my fingernails. “Be honest... do you want a baby?”
He didn't hesitate for even a second. “Yeah, I really do,” he said softly, his hands sliding up to cup my face before pulling me flush into his lap, making my heart skip a beat.
“I want one too,” I whispered, leaning down to press my lips against his, his hands immediately finding their way back to my waist, gripping me gently.
“I mean... we could always try to make one tonight,” he whispered with a wicked, hopeful smile.
Right as I was opening my mouth to answer him, the backdoor swung open and Patrick’s mom hollered from the porch:
“Pat, don’t wrap it up tonight! I want a grandbaby!”

Patrick Kane was my Will Smith back in the day
WillMack has parallels with KaneToews
A blonde winger with curls and the brunette captain (Mack def becoming a captain soon) that’s plays center
mack not being captain next season feels like a crime, if i'm being honest... but i actually never realized their parallels before, you're right
willmack taking several pages out the kanetoews book is really funny to me LOL
2/88
why is he lowkey reheating the fuck outta kaner's nachos
Yall will never convince me that Jonathan Toews wasn’t in love with Patrick Kane.
You’ll never convince me that that wasn’t his one big love, the one you spend a lifetime waiting for and a lifetime missing.
