Background: I haven’t updated my life events in the longest time, but here’s a short summary of it. Earlier this year, I realized I wasn’t happy in my former job. I felt pressured to succeed in a world where I was uncomfortable to begin with. And then I took the plunge. I decided to try writing for living. I left my job in the corporate world and took a leap of faith to a group-buying startup company. And guess what? I haven’t been happier since! More on that next time.
So fast forward to now. I am currently living with workmates at a condo that’s just walking distance from my office at the Fort. A great help from the lengthy commute from Paranaque. Big savings when it comes to time and money.
The catch? The first week has past and already I’ve spent a lot eating out since we don’t use the fridge yet at the condo and I can’t cook for life. So much for savings...
My boyfriend convinced me to try one of those trendy diet delivery programs where they deliver your meals and snacks everyday. It’s definitely more convenient than to prepare for it plus I get a lot variety. I’m a bit kuripot so I decided to try out the cheapest one I can find, which is Plan: Eat. It’s P1,300 (with delivery) for 3 meals and 2 snacks per day. Given I only spend around P260 per day, it’s not that bad!
So I decided to try out for this week. And I figured to chronicle it because, knowing myself, it definitely will not be easy for me.
So here I go, with my first food diary ever. I’m going to detail every single food I consume, including the relapses/food that are not included non-diet delivery program. Bear with me.
Breakfast: Jambalaya rice, banana
Relapses: 2 spoons of fried rice, cup of brewed coffee, handful of chopped carrots
Delivery came in pretty late, around 9AM. I wasn’t able to grab a proper breakfast since I came from the South and had to Uber before the rush hour started. Good thing my kind sister gave me a tupperware of chopped carrots, which I munched on the way to Taguig.
Decided to forego the instant coffee included in the delivery plan and had a good cup of brewed coffee.
Lunch: Truffle mac and cheese
Since I had breakfast and lunch in a short time span, I was pretty full after lunch (despite my workmates teasing me). So yeay, small victories.
PM snack: Small cup of fruit salad
Relapses: 4 bite-sized pineapple tarts, one Skyflakes cracker with Pan de Manila’s Herbed Butter on top
By 3PM, my stomach was already rumbling. Temptations included instant noodles, which I had a great whiff since someone was making it when I had to go to the pantry to refill my water bottle. Resorted to the bite-sized tarts and Skyflake cracker which I ate in a hurry. That fruit salad cup was a meager 2 spoonfuls.
Dinner: Mushrooms and Breaded Chicken with Teriyaki Sauce
Relapses: Family Mart’s Garden salad and Creamy Delight Strawberry Yoghurt.
Yup. This was a fail. Was excited to gym downstairs but much to my dismay, it was out of order. GUH. So I was bored and alone in the condo. The portion for dinner was the smallest. As in 3 flimsy pieces of chicken and a handful of mushrooms with a small 1oz cup of teriyaki sauce. Don’t get me wrong, it was pretty yummy, but it was so damn small! I gave in and ended up going to the nearest FamilyMart (which is 20 steps away) and having a debate with myself for a good 5 minutes whether to buy pasta or sandwich (cheaper, more filling) or salad (expensive, relatively healthier). Ended up buying yoghurt and green salad with ranch dressing.
I ranted to my boyfriend a lot and he basically said this was the birthing pains of doing a diet program. I applaud myself for choosing relatively healthy relapses. Relatively. But urgh, I had to spend more than I ought to for dinner. Must not give in to urges.
Plus, given the small portions I forced myself to savor every single morsel of my meals. I enjoyed, but you know what they say, all good things come to an end.
Tomorrow will be better. Less relapses!
