hi chuckles! as someone who is unfamiliar with vox machina, can you give us a run-down on vex’ahlia, and perhaps also an interaction guide? 🖤
the way i just absolutely adore you and appreciate your interest in my muses, even the ones you don't know 🧡 this means a lot! i've been meaning to write up a little description of her for my carrd, so this is the perfect way to do it.
vex'ahlia ("vex") she/her ~ 28 years old half-elf ranger/rogue bisexual 5'9" with long, dark brown hair in a braid member of vox machina, a ragtag band of adventurers / mercenaries on the continent of tal'dorei affilated with @ravildan (vax'ildan, her twin brother) and @studiodrafts (her canon husband and singleship, percival de rolo).
↪ from the legend of vox machina, an animated television show based on a dungeons and dragons campaign by critical role. ↪ created and played by laura bailey in both the campaign and the television show. ↪ i take inspiration for my interpretation of vex'ahlia from both the show and the campaign. the show is five seasons total (the fourth season just aired) and the campaign is 115 episodes (i'm on episode 47).
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
↪ vex'ahlia and her twin brother vax'ildan ("vax") were raised by their human mother eliana until they were ten years old, when their elvish father syldor came and took them away. he raised them in syngorn, an elven city, until the twins grew tired of his ridicule, mistreatment, and contempt for them and ran away together. they fled back to their hometown, but found the place destroyed by a dragon and their mother, missing. ↪ vex and vax spent the rest of their teenage years surviving on their own, making ends meet, and protecting each other. these years side by side have bonded them tightly together; they are each other's best friends and closest connection. ↪ vex also has a giant brown bear named trinket as a companion. trinket was just a cub when vex rescued him from a band of poachers, and ever since then the bear has remained by her side. he is fiercely protective of vex. ↪ in their late twenties, searching for work and desperate for coin, the twins join a bunch of assorted warriors and form a band of mercenaries called vox machina. they go on a few adventurers here and there trying to make money before the events of the show and the campaign begin. ↪ eventually she becomes the baroness of the third house of whitestone and grand mistress of the grey hunt, two titles gifted to her by a member of vox machina, percival de rolo. she marries him, too!
DETAILS ABOUT VEX'AHLIA'S PERSONALITY
↪ very charismatic, deceptive, and pragmatic. ↪ originally neutral good, then chaotic neutral, and eventually chaotic good. i typically write her when she's neutral good and chaotic neutral. ↪ extremely frugal and hyper-aware of how much money she has at all times. this is due to her time traveling with vax'ildan, the two struggling to make ends meet and surviving on their own. she's very good at haggling because of this, too. ↪ very damaged self-image but won't admit it outloud. constantly feels like she has to look like she came from money and is worth more than she thinks she is. a lot of damage came from her time in syngorn with her father and the other elves, who judged her and vax for being half-elves.
A FEW VERSES
↪ her MAIN VERSE is during the events of the legend of vox machina, either before, during, or after, with lots of references to the campaign thrown in there. ↪ in a GENERAL FANTASY VERSE, she can exist as herself, a half-elven ranger traveling with her brother or with a band of mercenaries. we can keep away from vox machina-specific language and translate this into any other space we want. ↪ in a MASS EFFECT VERSE, blythe and i discussed making the twins turians, and i think that's an incredible idea. mercenary turians... potentially running in similar circles as garrus when he's archangel? ↪ her MODERN VERSE needs some time to cook up but i'm sure, with plotting, i could create something quickly.
INTERACTION NOTES
↪ since she comes from a dnd campaign, it's pretty easy to drop her into scenarios (hunting for someone, earning money by taking up jobs, searching for magical artifacts, etc.) ↪ she will probably be sharp-tongued and initially combative to newcomers, but can and will warm up eventually. if you can benefit her and/or earn her money, she will like you.
