I have ideas now for a PLANT BASED MAGIC SYSTEM

Essentially, magic is based on [SOUL ENERGY], of which most people have lots, that’s not the issue. The issue is that in order to harness one’s [SOUL] they need to bring it forth and manifest it into the physical realm. Everyone can do this a little bit with their bodies, but if you want to cast magic any stronger, you need additional [CORPOREAL FORMS]. Now we get into lore, so hold on.

In the [BEFORE] times, people harnessed magic with the aid of others. People could [POOL] power to use powerful magic together! A few lucky mages were even aided by the rare and magical beings known as [STRANGER]s, or once bonded to a mage, their [FAMILIAR]. But, as the world advanced, and a increasingly capitalist system forced people to live with less community, using [POOL]s became harder and harder to do. Especially for the poor. But the rich, even with exclusive access to [POOL]s, were still occasionally outclassed. Because, despite the elites many attempts, there was no way to get a [STRANGER] to bond to anyone that they did not wish too. And the 1% being exactly that, 1% of the population, [FAMILIAR]s were much more common amongst the proletariat. Angry at what they could not attain, the rich sought to find a method of claiming more power for themselves. And soon they had it: [HOMUNCULI]. Horrible chimeras made from mutated, pacified, but still very much alive animals and people. Using the power of many [CORPOREAL FORMS] the elite could surpass even the powers of a mage and their [FAMILIAR], so long as they had enough sacrifices melted into their [SOUL] batteries. Using this power to stifle and over power the people, they called themselves [WIZARDS]. Horrified by the [HOMUNCULI], and the people and creatures used to create them, the masses revolted, sparking the beginnings of the [LAST WAR]. Thought the course of the [LAST WAR] magic, violence, and modern weaponry would ravage cities and townships alike, scarring the world forever. By the time the last [WIZARD] and their [HOMUNCULI] had gone out with a bang, the world and its people were nothing more than a marred and post-apocalyptic mess. People were spread, occasionally in small outposts or communities, but often alone, far away from each other. The art of creating [POOL]s, while slowly returning, is hard to accomplish with communities torn and scattered. The powerful [STRANGER]s all but vanished, for unknown reasons, leaving nothing but the few surviving [FAMILIAR]s and the worry that they might never return. And the world, crumbling and overgrown, is more dangerous than ever. Creatures, saturated with the magic spilled like radiation into the world during the [LAST WAR] grow strange and powerful. Whispers of beasts, remnants of the [HOMUNCULI] experiments, alive and vengeful, frighten travelers away from the centers of certain metropolises. But it would be plants, affected by the magic aftershock in their own way, that would define this the [NEW] era. It was soon discovered that the magic aftershock of the [LAST WAR] not only sparked plants to grow rapidly and massively over the abandoned [BEFORE] cities. They also became more saturated in magic. Certain cultivars of plant had become potent carriers for [SOUL ENERGY], if imperfect ones. Named [VASSAL]s, these plants can be carried in protective glass terrariums to serve as [CORPOREAL FORM]s and allow mages to harness more of their [SOUL ENERGY]. They are imperfect compared to [STRANGER]s, [POOL]s, or [HOMUNCULI], however: they distorted the [SOUL ENERGY] pulled though them, favoring certain types. This is known as a [VASSAL]’s [FILTER]. Some [VASSAL]s are also more powerful than others, and don’t need to be as big (and subsequently heavy) to hold large amounts of [SOUL ENERGY]. In general, nomad mages buy [VASSAL]s from [GREEN HOUSES] according to their budget and need- plants need to have the right [FILTER], the needed capacity, and still be light enough to carry. Many nomad mages find themselves mixing and matching until they are carrying their own personal [GARDEN] and are more than capable to fight the creatures, beasts, and what ever else lurks in the wild green of the [NEW]!

So I finally got around to reading the book Practical Magic by Nikki Van De Car, and it... kinda ranges from duh to dumb. It’s okay for people who are getting their very first introduction to this information. But! I do have to say that the art in this book is just lovely! So pretty! If you want a very basic introduction to some witchy topics, it’s not a bad book 👌🏽

I know it’s a bit late in my practice to read this book and that’s why I’m rolling my eyes at a lot of it, but I bought it forever ago and decided to read it before getting rid of it 😅 besides, it’s never bad to have a refresher on some of these topics!

okay since I need to get my mind off of my anxiety, it’s study time

who wants to learn about Ironweed with me? Since I am trying to reconnect to my green roots, I picked a local species of plant that has been calling out to me every time I see it. I didn’t know what it was called so I did some digging around and found that the gorgeous purple giant was called Ironweed. 

Not much has been revealed in it’s nature so far, except that it is a member of the aster family, supposedly used by Native Americans as a pain reliever (the roots anyways) ((<-- don’t quote me on this I need to find a source from an actual Native American website and/or book)), and that if you put it in a pouch made of purple flannel it would give you influence over those around you. ((<-- don’t pay too much mind to that either, considering the source I got it from was p curse shaming and “law of three” touting)).

I’m thinking of writing a charm or curse involving it, but I want to learn more first~
