Day 19: Plant Fail
I repotted the Saddest Rabbit's Foot Fern, and all the fronds fell off as soon as I touched it. There are a few sprigs of green, so maybe there's hope?

An Open Letter to Everyone Who Has Drowned an Orchid.
You know who you are.
You saw it at the store—majestic, elegant, with perfect blooms. You brought it home, determined to be a good plant parent. You gave it a beautiful pot and tucked it into what you thought was good, rich potting soil.
And then you killed it.
It’s not your fault. You were set up to fail. That beautiful Phalaenopsis orchid is not a "dirt plant." It is an AIR PLANT.
In its native rainforest home, it doesn't grow in the ground. It clings to the bark of high trees, letting its thick, silvery roots breathe the open air.
That dense, soggy soil you used? It was a velvet-lined coffin. It suffocated the roots, starved them of oxygen, and slowly turned them into a foul-smelling mush. That is the #1 cause of death for these beautiful plants.
Your orchid doesn't want a mud bath. It craves a five-star treehouse—a chunky, airy, fast-draining mix that lets it breathe.
But you don't need to be a soil scientist to get it right. We built a tool that designs the perfect potting mix for your specific plant in under 30 seconds.
Stop the cycle of horticultural homicide. Atone for your past plant sins.

Plant Shaming!!!
So this is a sunflower seedling (one of my experiment ones from bird seed mix) that I neglected and didn’t prioritize so it didn’t get a lot of sun, and so, in an act of rebellion and retribution it has decided to grow as a curly leggy vine!!!
I wanted to share this because 1. it’s funny and 2. like all of social media we usually only see people’s successes, not the moments of failure, embarrassment, or learning.
In all likelihood this young plant won’t survive, or if it does it won’t flower, but I’m going to pop it in the ground at some point anyway, maybe its rebellious spirit will give it a fighting chance 🌻
