I’ve been running my #plantsincolor series for over two years since my first photo back in June of 2018. This has been a really beautiful and difficult series to create and I’m so happy I got it to where it is now! I will be doing smaller color runs in the future, but for now i will be ending the series. ☀️Summer Time Succulents☀️ Every summer I love to clean up the succulents, cut them down and repot them to grow fresh and new for the summer. Succulents always have a special place in my heart. I love the vibrant colors and all the different leaf shapes! I used to make terrariums all the time using succulents and colorful sand. The whole process was very therapeutic. My philo. White Wizard, which I ALWAYS mistake for white knight 🤦🏻‍♀️the main difference being the red tinted petiole in the knight. I used to have one but somewhere down the line itttt died. But lucky I have my white wizard, clearly the real knight in shining armor 🧙! I recently sliced and diced this plant baby up and all the cuttings took! Even the main stalk grew really fast. This here is the first cutting I’ve transferred to a soil medium. I planed on keeping it like I have which have been- bright indirect (with a touch of direct light) humidity and a great light airy aroid soil mix. My next experiment with this plant will be to see if I can get it to climb. Overall, I would consider this a medium level plant. ☀️Summer is here☀️ As the season starts there is still a ton of work to be done around the apartment especially with the plants. Micah and I have been trying to rearrange our storage in the apartment and it’s been difficult especially with our kitchen. This space is so difficult to cook in and since quarantine we’ve been forced to cook way more then we ever did. We finally hung some shelves for storage so hopefully we can get the space functioning a lot better soon. The plants have been generally happy and appreciative of the warmer (humid) weather but omg it feels like everything needs a fresh soil and a bigger pot 😳🙈 I’ve been transporting a few to my parents place so I can repot and my parents are starting to notice the increase in plants 😬 I keep trying to explain that these few plants are nothing compared to the 200+ back home in the apartment but they aren’t too convinced😙🌿 Here is my philodendron tortum that has been riding the struggle bus 🚌 since I got it in the fall. I wasn’t expecting it to be so sensitive so when I popped it in soil and noticed quickly that it wasn’t taking well I quickly popped it into water and left it for months. Instead of growing new leaves from what was already there it actually starting growing a new offshoot plant instead. I brought this baby to my parents so I can transfer it to perlite and I will be keeping a mini healing box there so I can keep my eye on it. Summer weather makes me think of my succulents and cacti. For me, when the weather starts to warm I love to clean and prep my succulents so they can grow beautifully again. Keep your eye out for an igtv all about how I clean up my succulent pots. I recently made room for this beautiful Senecio haworthii also known as Woolly senecio. I love my philo. Florida ghost ‘minted’! Minted is used to describe the way in which this plant variegates(fine thin lines of white and green). That paired with its red faded petioles just makes this plant so cute and colorful! It’s been growing well since I brought it back from Florida when I was down there for the IAS show. It’s one of those plants that holds such great memories and makes me miss all the lovely people I was able to meet while I was there💚It was one of my top finds! I thinking of making a moss pole for it this summer. I think it will help encourage larger leaf growth if it attaches to something. I’ve found that this babe loves a nice loose draining mix being heavier on the perlite side. My variegated Alocasia is so cute, I love this little plant. I picked it up while I was in Florida for the IAS Show and it survived being stuffed in my suitcase and all the way back to New York. It’s had a few new leaves grow but they ended up unfurling all white so they ended up dying back pretty quickly. I’m a little late for #nationalorchidday but I did want to take a moment to appreciate some of my orchids like this one, anoectochilus chapaensis. I purchased a few new orchids back in February at what was the first (and sadly seems like the last for now) orchid show of the season. The majority are jewel orchids. I love their leaf patterns and metallic colors! I’ve kept them all in my makeshift bubble dome (two clear plastic salad bowls) and they’ve been doing seemingly ok.
