Legato sprays them like fighting cats, and they look at him in shock, and he says that dinner is ready and that they can postpone their fight until later. they obey him, btw

Summary: The year Legato turned eighteen, he found another of summer's secrets, this one even more tangible and precious than a name.

"But it is, Nai," Vash insisted, leaping from his fold-out chair with distressing agility and guiding Legato to take his place. Legato's lower back heated deliciously under his steady hand. "Just trust me on this, please?" 

Legato looked between them in confusion as Vash gently pressed him into the rough fabric. (It was still hot from its previous occupant.) "I—but that is, I'm the Devil's child and you might get—"

"Listen to me," Nai said firmly, handing him a metal cup. The tart, sweet scent of lemonade wafted from its depths. "You're going to drink this. You're going to tell us your name. And depending on how far away you live, you're going to either borrow one of our lanterns or stay the night."

Legato thought of his thunder-scarred shack, the tree growing in the center of it, forcing him out bit by bit. The slack-jawed idiots and their jeers. He drank, the contrast of the cool lemonade and warm fire utterly luxurious.

poststargaze plantsummers would be fine if you think about Legato who takes care of the garden, harvests and collects flowers. Vash and Knives arguing about what will be for dinner and which side of the bed they will sleep on tonight. in the end Legato sleeps in the middle while twins fighting and trying figure out whose chest Legato will nuzzle while sleeping.

plantsummers!!! plantsummers is a thing. i love plantsummers as much as i love millionsummersa and vashgato. plantsummers in my heart bc i love the idea that Legato being loved by two angels\gods. he worship them and they worship him.

what is your vkl fosters au?

basically it's a vkl (vash/knives/legato) centric story from knives's pov wherein both the twins and legato are teens in the foster system. i created it to explore a darker side of drama/slice-of-life, in memoriam of how disjointed and weird my own childhood felt (though these experiences are not mine, this is fully fiction, which is hopefully obvious). vash and knives are in their last year of highschool, while legato is a year behind them.

the twins live in a neglectful household. their foster parents aren't physical with them, but they also don't care. they're in it for the money. legato is a survivor of a child trafficking ring. his foster parents aren't doing much better by him; some pretty vicious physical and verbal abuse, hence the long, dark clothes in sweltering weather.

the gist of it is that vash has been making new friends at their newest school (knives keeps getting them kicked out of foster situations, and they've been expelled together twice, so they've made a lot of moves), and knives is bitter. jealous of vash's friends, territorial over the only person he's ever been able to rely on, and stressed to shit over trying to graduate while he struggles with unmedicated religious psychosis.

he stumbles upon legato at the beginning of senior year. it begins with intrigue, seeing scars that match his, and eyes so dull. legato, of course, latches on immediately. he picks up on their similarities and finds comfort in knowing he's not alone. knives initially, mostly, sees him as a tool to get vash off his back about being more friendly, but like i said: intrigue. they share coping mechanisms. misery loves company.

eventually vash enters the picture as more than knives's psychosexual obsession and sole motivation in life.

he thinks it's a good thing that knives is making friends (plural, given legato has friends (those friends being midvalley, dira, and whoever else i decide i like writing about) and knives kind of gets begrudgingly adopted into the group), but knives making friends means knives is out more often, and knives being out more often means that vash is stuck in their shared bedroom getting frustrated over math all by himself, and it's foreign, and weird, and bad, because knives has always been a constant. and is he getting skinnier? i have to admit i took some arfid/anorexic/bulimic knives inspirstion from peachglumpear's gorgeous college au, "moment of impact." it fits too well, he and legato feeding (LMAO SORRY) into one another's illnesses because nobody else gets it.

and these boys, y'all... their favorite activity is holing up in the bathroom after school and seeing who can cut deeper that day. they murmur to each other about the unjustness of it all. the closer they get the more jealous legato becomes towards vash, because vash is knives's seeming one-and-only, his guiding light. legato feels he will never be that for somebody. knives feels incredibly conflicting things about long, blue hair, golden eyes and tawny skin. he's never thought about another person this much outside of his brother. he finds himself settling into it, made to feel secure by legato's unrivaled devotion, and what started out as purely selfish becomes like having another brother. he doesn't dote on legato, but he starts showing affection and concern similarly to how he would towards vash: by bitching at him. "brush your hair, that's the wrong equation idiot, why are you eating so much junk, don't you know it'll ruin your body?" legato tries hard to just take it like his own foster parents barking orders, but even vash is noticing.

and speaking of vash, let's get back to him: he decides it's a great idea to attempt merging their friend groups, even though knives hangs out with notoriously dickish people. (midvalley is their saving grace). not everybody gets along but he gets a closer eye on knives and 'gato, and he also gets the chance to learn about the people his brother considers worthwhile.

etc. etc. the turning point of the au is when knives has a psychotic break (something that isn't deliberate malfeasance for once), arranges a sleepover where he tries to kill vash, legato and himself, and gets dragged to the hospital because he turned the knife on himself first in an attempt to show them that he was doing what was best for all of them. it's pretty bleak.

but everyone shows up for him. he gets meds that their shitty, faceless foster parents bitterly agree to pay for, if only so they keep getting their check, and he gets bundles and bundles of flowers.

legato and midvalley bring him a beat up electric keyboard to play while he recovers from multiple self-inflicted stab wounds, along with their own instruments (legato on violin and midvalley, of course, on bari sax). meryl brings him a book on feminist theory to read. milly brings flowers and packaged vegan treats (she figured out he has contamination ocd). vash crawls into knives's hospital bed every night so knives can fall asleep to the sound of his heartbeat.

knives is still a pain in the ass when he's medicated, of course, it's just his personality, but he's less terrified of everything. he still has his routines and compulsions, but the episodes he does have are much less intense. increased communication with vash about what they both want helps, too. knowing vash isn't going to leave him no matter what. that, and knowing that vash isn't the only thing he has anymore. that not all people are cruel and stupid and eager to take advantage. that's not to say that he doesn't still hate everyone he doesn't know, but you get what i'm meaning. he finds his people and it chills him out a bit. the king of loneliness, lonely no more.

things aren't the same once he's out of the hospital, but he finds that he doesn't really want them to be. he doesn't have some drastic change of character, he just seems a little calmer, a little more tired. it's easier for legato to hold his hand, or for vash to bring him down from the edge of a meltdown (sorry i just piled on the mental disorders, it's a me thing).

that's all i really have for it so far because i'm not sure whether or not i want to end it there.

40. What is your favorite world that you’ve created for a fic?

I'm glad that this is a tough one to answer now! I still think my take on a "healing zone" of the Throne of Heroes in A Demanding Heart might be my favorite. I designed it as a peaceful place with a bit of adventure for spice, and I think it worked really well. (Also I got to squee about castles, which I also love to do.)

Runner up in that category is the Palace/revamped Canaan from Poisoned Honey, which is a combo of Granblue Fantasy and Sleeping Beauty Trilogy's worlds + my own tastes, which I've never tried before! It's been a lot of fun working on it.

43. Is there a trope or idea that you’d really like to write but haven’t yet?

SO MANY...I've been wanting to do an A/B/O fic set in GBF for a long time now, and do actually have it partially-written! But it's...I'm not sure where it's going? It's a very different take on A/B/O than most (Omegas fret over the Alphas like they're Victorian maidens/luxuries, and Alpha!Belial games the system while Omega!Djeeta tries in vain to corral him), which both helps and hinders.

Aside from that, though, for Trigun Stampede in particular I keep chomping at the bit over that "Legato/Vash/Knives sex cult" idea! Especially since there's an amazing amount of carte blanche re: how Legato would act toward Vash, how Plants' biology works, getting to invent hymns and sacred rites and and and. It's both erotic and also ideal for lots of Complicated Feelings About Religion, a topic I didn't know I enjoyed writing about until recently.

...I just noticed, both of these have confining social/religious rituals at their center...huh. XD
