Properly Adjusted Glasses!
Today is Monday, August 24th, 2015. Let me tell you something about getting knew glasses...it’s a pain. Not only do you have to find the right shape that makes your face look proportioned, but you also have to find the right size. I actually JUST learned about the importance of the three measurements. I have been wearing glasses for over 8 years and only know do I know how to pick the perfect glasses. However, with this new information, it will now take me much longer to find the perfect pair of glasses, because I am looking for the right shape and numbers. For those who are still not informed about these three measurements, let me give you some insight.
These three very important numbers are generally found inscribed in the bridge area or one of the temples (a.k.a. arms). The numbers on my new glasses right now are 52 □ 16 - 135. I should also tell you that I only learned about the meaning behind the three numbers AFTER I bought my new glasses. The first number represents the width of the lenses. The second number represents the width of the bridge (area that your nose fits between). The third number represents the length of the temples (arms). All of these measurements are in millimeters. Everybody has their own number, so it is best to find an optician that can get you a proper fitting so that you can buy glasses that fit your face. If you still keep your old eyeglasses and you like the way they fit, look at the numbers and you can start from there. Trust me, finding the perfect pair of glasses will make your life so much easier and comfortable. Oh and another tip I got from the optical center was that if your prescription is a little bit on the high side, you are better off getting a pair of glasses that have a smaller lens width. It will keep your glasses light and your lenses thin, which is also why my optician recommended that I get frames that are a bit thicker on the sides to further hide my thick lenses due to my high eye prescription.
Once your new glasses are ready to be picked up, be sure to get them properly adjusted. If you don’t have time the day you pick them up, find a good time to go back and get them adjusted. I cannot begin to tell you how uncomfortable it is to wear a pair of glasses that are not properly adjusted. The day I picked up my new glasses, I was in a rush, so I couldn’t stay to get my glasses adjusted. When I got home, I realized the glasses would constantly slip off my face. So I took them to a nearby optical department to get my temples adjusted. After the adjustments were made, my glasses didn’t slide off anymore, but there were new problems. I didn’t want to make my family wait any longer so I settled, which was a BIG MISTAKE. Don’t settle...at least not with a new pair of glasses that are going to be with you for at least a year. After wearing them for a few more days, I became extremely irritated with how the glasses were fitting on my face. They were so close to my eyes that when I blinked, my eyelids and/or eyelashes would touch my lenses. It was so annoying to constantly wipe the lenses and because of the way it was angled, my glasses would keeping fogging. Again...very annoying. So I finally took them back to the original place I got my glasses and sat down with an optician to get them properly adjusted. I told her all the problems I was having with my new glasses and she was able to fix them with a few adjustments. O.M.G. They are now so comfortable and they don’t dig into my cheeks anymore and my eyeglasses don’t touch my eyeballs anymore!!
You live and learn right? It is never too late to figure out these little tidbits of information that make your life better. Haha!! :)
Have a nice time hunting for your new glasses,
