Plastik vol 35 featuring Sasha Velour by Eli Rezkallah
Most of my conversations lately revolved around anxiety and how fast everything is going, how did Facebook know that I wanted to buy this specific product? Is my phone spying on me? Are our computers watching us? Everyone seems to think that we are being watched, spied on and stalked by an unknown “force”: a group of marketers, brands, governments, establishments and even individuals. So I went on imagining a modern day horror story inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s haunting film “The Birds”, where technology revolts against humans. “The Drones” is a shoot set in the (very) near future: one that is threatening to materialize at any given day.

Today marks the completion of Sasha Velour’s ‘so emotional’ reign as America’s Next Drag Superstar. Ever since snatching the crown in one of the most iconic moments in RPDG history, Sasha has been turning heads, performing to sold-out audiences worldwide (including Beirut), creating her own drag show “Nightgowns”, and making her mark in both the Art and Fashion worlds. Yet Sasha’s biggest accomplishment is the everlasting impact she has had shedding light on LGBTQI rights, and giving a voice to the marginalized members of its community.Sasha has devoted her rise to fame to empower gay activists around the world, as well as to showcase other forms of Drag otherwise unseen by the general public. A living and breathing art installation, she consistently pushes the boundaries of drag with each of her head-spinning designs, fueled by an undying vocation to ‘turn darkness into light’. In order to celebrate her Queendom, Plastik is sharing a glimpse of her mesmerising limited edition cover to be featured in Plastik Magazine’s next issue, shot by none other than @elirezkallah produced by Plastik Studios 2018. “The Drones” is a modern day story heroing a Hitchcockian blonde, attacked by the same birds that attack us, - indirectly - everyday. With computers accessing our locations, conversations, sensations, thoughts and wants and needs, we are more vulnerable now than ever. We exist on data clouds as much as we do in the Real World. But What real World? Photography Eli Rezkallah Produced by PLASTIK Studios 2018
