Even as we take just three of these names, we are taken down the memory lane for a sport that is more of a religion for Indians. As they say, cricket is in our blood and rightly so – we are one of the leading nations in the game. So how do you exactly get a game into the blood of the second most populated country? By catching them young! You see the youngest members of every family now picking up a bat and a ball and walking with pride onto the field to play cricket. And that just takes you back to the fondest memories that you have with the game and your team mates.

Let us help you get on this nostalgic ride by beginning the very first step of childhood cricket – finding the person with a bat. Like how not everyone can be a Sachin, as kids not everyone’s fathers got them bats so the first challenge was to locate a ‘friend’ who had a bat. Once you found the bat, it was time to make the teams. As kids, we would find the most innovative ways to choose a team – from rock paper scissors to something called ‘tip-toe’. After a selection process as gruelling as one for the Indian cricket team, it was time for the famous toss. Now this is something that you wouldn’t have seen anywhere in the world – the toss meant swivelling the bat to allow it land on one of the surfaces. Each surface is chosen by the team ‘captains’ and the winning captain chooses whether to bat or bowl. And if you thought that now these kids would get going to play cricket, you are wrong because now came the longest argument – the rules. These rules ranged from ‘one tap one hand out’ to ‘break a window out’ and were just loving adaptations of everyone’s favourite game. The game usually ended with the owner of the bat walking away with it.

From then to now – cricket has evolved from test, one day, T20 and now a cricket simulator. Whatever the form may be, it will forever remain a fond memory in the minds of many Indians and for that we as a nation will always be grateful to the legends!
