playbarbies sent: ❛ i'll always be here for you, no matter what. just please don't shut me out. ❜ — to nance from robin!
Please don't shut me out.
Nancy fixates on that plea because she knows @playbarbies has been shut out. Nancy herself has been guilty of shutting Robin out. Now she's at a loss because the last thing she wants is to hurt Robin. In fact, she wants to protect her. She wants to be the person she goes to when she's hurting.
She wants too much. She wants more than what Robin can give and possibly more than she's willing to take.
She sighs. "I'm not shutting you out, Robin. I already told you. There's nothing wrong."
Nancy has grown used to softening her usual bite when Robin's involved, but this time she injects the venom she needs to cause a festering wound. But her heart breaks as soon as she does. As wrong as her feelings might be, intentionally hurting Robin is so much worse.
Nancy's stomach does a flip, twisting full of nerves. Her heart stumbles over itself.
"I have feelings for you."
She hears the words as if someone else said them. There's an echo to them, like they're coming from far away. Her eyes are locked on Robin's. Her gaze is a life preserver, the only thing keeping Nancy from floating away or going under. If her heart hammers any harder, it's bound to stop working.
"Like... like I did for Jonathan and Steve."
This time she feels a little more in control of her words, but everything else is spinning. Her hands shake. The same hands that held a shotgun steady, tremble.
"And I don't know what to do." Her brow furrows as her eyes go wide. "I don't know what to do."
