In 1996, Banpresto (then partially owned by Bandai) produced a kinetoscope using Bandai's Playdia as a video player. Originally advertised as the BA-X, the Playdia was released on October 23, 1994. While not geared toward the same public as the Saturn’s and the PS1′s (both released a few weeks later), it wasn’t successful. The machine is mostly known for its FMV games based on licences such as Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon and Ultraman... and a few adult games released later in its (short) life.
