Bit of trivia for you the game credits claim the game was inspired by the  Carr.H.Schitch, 1819 novel “Steel Empire". However this appears to be a bit of an in joke to something as the novel doesn’t exist and appears totally made up. Much like P.H. Chada the joke author for the Far East of Eden series.

I wanted to do a full translation of this page (credit to @yamryuu for the scan) for my own curiosity, and figured I may as well share it. I’ve also written out my transliteration of the Japanese so anyone can check the translation themselves.

レンガ割りも楽々こなす優しき空手リーガーだ The gentle karate leaguer can easily split bricks.

8話以降、髪が立っている場合が多い From episode 8 onwards, his hair often stands up.

リュウケンの腹部パーツ。 結構いいパーツを使っているみたいだ Ryuuken’s abdominal parts. He seems to be using pretty good parts.

リュウケンが作られた下町のエ場。 現在は閉鎖中である The downtown area where Ryuuken was made. Currently closed.

意外とジャンプ力に優れている。 でも頭の丸みもよく目立つ… Surprisingly excellent jumping power. However, the roundness of his head often stands out… (?)

努力のリーガー、リュウケンは今日も走る！ A hardworking leaguer, Ryuuken is running today!

自分の事を空手リーガーと気付かないリュウケンだが、周りも気付いてくれなかった。 結構おまぬけである Ryuuken doesn’t notice he’s a karate leaguer, nor do those around him. It’s pretty ridiculous.

ボク、どうしても勝ちたいんだ!! No matter what, I want to win!!

A kind anon on /vr/ scanned these a few months ago and I almost forgot I had them saved.  These are from GameFan Magazine back before the game came out in America.  Clearly an as-of-yet undumped beta is being played; note the H in the health-icon which is only present in the International version and Maruyama still has original Japanese sprite.  Strangely enough, despite Maruyama’s original sprite being present, the article states that Rebecca is unique to the Japanese version, which is correct, as her sprite was replaced with Mons Meg in the International version.

Also of note is the official art plastered all over the article.  As far as I know many of the drawings here were never made public outside of the Gunstar Heroes Treasure Box on PS2 so it’s really neat to see many of these for the first time.
