“i mean it, kid, don’t let me win this time.”

words fail to sound as stern as he’d like them to, voice hoarse due to a throat turned raw by the frequent coughing fits that plagued him. but he hopes the half-hearted look he gives jason is enough to convey his message: don’t hand me a win just because i’m sick; let me earn it. let me deserve it. eyes shift from jason to the chess board carefully placed between them on the edge of his hospital bed, pieces carefully arranged already. it’s a possibility that whizzer might not even make it through one game before he’s lulled back into an exhausted unconsciousness, but for jason’s sake he’ll do his best to remain alert.
