In this workshop I went into creating my Sliotar with a gap in the middle by using pinch pots. For me clay is not my favourite medium, I find myself trying to smooth it out to much as I struggle seeing any cracks or uneven surface showing.
After creating my first pinch pot sliotar it had an almost look of Pac Man. I decided to make a few of these so that I could leave myself available and open to possible creating a Pac man but also just in case the initial piece did not make it through the firing.
On my Sliotar piece I also added a rib like texture around it to match the design on an actual Sliotar.
After this I was speaking with Elaine and she showed me how after forming my pinch pot circle I could smooth it out by dropping it into a bowl allowing it to become more even and smooth without denting the surface. We then formed the ribbing by cutting a circle out of a slab of clay so that it could be placed over the ball to give the impression. I did not attach the ribbing as the though then occurred that I could look at using it as the piece to hold other objects which I could make look like a sliotar.
Now we just wait for the clay to go through its firing and see what we are left with.
