Movement Project - Idea Building

While I was brainstorming ideas for my project I found myself thinking of each element in 2 ways. One being harmful or disastrous and the Second being calming and helpful. I found myself wanting to portray both sides of the element. 

At first I was struggling to see how to portray this within one piece as I did not want a different piece for each. I then remembered the old billboards that I would see when in Dublin that would change from one image to another.  This was before the all went digital and a slideshow could be used instead it was a mechanical change. One image was on one side of a board and another on the flip side, so each time the boards were changed you got to see a different advertisement. 

There were also ones that did not have a mechanical change but had it that with the angle to boards were aimed at and the way you looked at them from certain angles would show you a different image. I completed an example of this above with the paper, by folding it into sections. Once looked at from one angle the image is a brown colour, and the other angle the background is a blue colour.

Thumbnail Ideas

After having a peer review with Suzanne, she mentioned how I had shown two different parts of my life (sport and make up or social). That made me start to think what else expresses who I am. Then I wanted to express one of the main parts of showing who I am is through my art. I have many different types of paints and paint tubes that I have accumulated over the years. 

I still wanted to keep with the overall theme I have brought into my project of expect the unexpected. So I had a the idea of having a paint bottle with anything but paint coming out, even just shapes and different textures coming out from the paint tube.

For this I was also thinking of instead of one larger piece that I may go smaller and make multiple pieces that have a similarity in the paint bottle but each having a little difference.

Monster Boys?

I wonder if it would be a fun thing to draw like those human dude x monster gal but human gal x monster dude? Though maybe there’s plenty of that out on the internet already and I just don’t know where to look?

As I thought about it, I was thinking how it would be fun to draw creatures/monsters/aliens since lately I’ve been trying to draw humans. Then I quickly realized it wouldn’t release me from my suffering if the idea is to draw human women having romances with monster men.

So what about trying to do it with the perspective where the human isn’t visible / the human is first person point of view? That would feel very much like monster boy x reader though. I don’t really want to try writing any x reader despite me liking reading that stuff.

The idea of trying to write someone ambiguous yet having some sort of personality that most people would either feel like it matches them or wouldn’t mind viewing themself as just doesn’t feel fun. I know there’s ways to do it, but I don’t want to deal with it. Kudos to everyone who does write x reader stuff.

I like the idea of drawing some monster men since I do have a tendency to draw gals instead. So it would be a nice way to develop more guy characters while having fun with art. Just what format should I go with though?

Random short stories? Maybe just answering random prompts about ocs? Perhaps little intro stories to each one and hope to get questions to prompt more art and info about each one? I’ll need to figure out what would be the right and appropriate tags for that to hopefully get any interactions though. Or just get lucky. Which I feel like I’d need luck regardless lol.

The characters I have in mind right now are: A burrow-nesting multi-limbed guy who wears these rings on his tails to make eerie sounds to scare off humans; A ice-covered frog hitman? I barely have an idea of him except that he could be a bad guy in one character’s story; and perhaps that weird villain I dreamt up.

I could also throw in Hex, a young mischief-making fairy that wants friends. I should go through my stuff and see who else I could potentially add to this idea. Maybe not Hex since I already have a good idea of his character and maybe focus on the barely-made characters instead.

Movement Project Ideas

I have found myself drawn in to looking at the elements but also growth. So far I haven't got a set idea of where this is going. I like the idea that I could possibly look at how the elements help or effect growth, to allow myself to combine the two ideas.

My other thought is to keep them separate and focus more on one than the other. Overall I feel that with the elements within this project will possibly give more ideas or possibilities overall. 

This will need further research and though process to see which would suit me as an artist better to utilise within the project of movement.

Clay Workshop - Idea Planning

When going into the clay workshop I wanted to create something with a simple shape that can appear as a toy or have an unexpected addition to the object. 

Initially I thought I would look at making a set of tools out of clay with maybe a possible tool box to hold them. Once I went into the workshop I realised that my ability to do what I had initially thought did not match so I pulled back the ideas. 

We were shown how to form pinch pots and there were a few examples of pinch pots being connected together and some being left with an opening. This led me to my idea of forming a sliotar out of pinch pots leaving an opening to which  I can, once the piece is finished, use different materials to come out of the gap between the two such as leaves or vines to give an unexpected twist to the piece.
