Baptisia alba (White Wild Indigo) This plant is popular with insects. Bumblebees pollinate the flowers and caterpillars of several skippers, butterflies and moths feed on the foliage. This is a legume species (member of the pea family). Most legumes harbor beneficial bacteria called rhizobia on their roots. Cup plant (Silphium perfoliatum) The leaves themselves form a small basin that allows rain water to collect in tiny pools around the stem, hence the cup comparison. These "cups" provide a water source for birds, bees, and butterflies.
