i havent drawn in awhile, but coming in here to say i still havent finished the avery update, but me thinks i’ll probably put in vanida’s verse that she adamantly denied and fought against avery’s offer of adopting her, and they probably are on a break. cause i can’t see her accepting that so willingly, especially considering her lore with her dad & bailey.
so, venus, you’re being adopted out of spite and to give bailey a boner when you try to convince him out of accepting the deal by saying you’re “HIS” orphan, not avery’s—
thankful to live in a world where i can go back and edit my posts and messages, not for nefarious gaslighting purposes but SO THAT I CAN CORRECT MY TYPOS. i will type and lightning speed, writing and rewriting three times to maybe make some coherence out of what i send out into the world and inevitably i will spell something wrong or forget a word all together.
Kara and Lena are jogging through the park, as they do now regularly now that they’re friends. Their usual jogging path is blocked, so they’re forced to divert. The new path is sometimes used by vehicles, be it for park maintenance or setting up for special events. At the end of their new path, they come to a vehicle entry gate. It’s just a large steel bar about five feet off the ground, that’s currently down to deny vehicles unintended access to the park.
Kara can’t resist the urge and walks under the gate like she’s doing the limbo. Lena laughs at her, calling her a dork. Kara dares Lena to do it. Lena refuses, as she has no rhythm, isnt eleven, nor is she drunk at a wedding in her early 20s. Kara tells her it’s fun and she’s missing out, right before she limbos back under the gate to Lena. Lena laughs again.
Lena relents, telling Kara fine but that she has to do it again so Lena knows what to do. Kara eagerly does the limbo again. Lena tries, looking about as awkward as a newborn deer trying to walk and barely making it across. Kara is so proud of her. She’s about to congratulate Lena when her friend falls backward, hitting her head hard again the gate.
Kara rushes to Lena’s side to make sure she’s okay. Lena winces a little but tells her she’s fine. She pulls her fingers from where her head hit the bar and says “see? no blood.” Kara’s not amused. Her x-ray vision shows her that Lena’s skull isn’t cracked, nor is there any internal bleeding...but she is worried Lena might have a concussion. Lena doesn’t want to go to the hospital, but she will let Kara take her home and watch her for the rest of the day. They compromise after Kara insists that Lena at least let Alex check her out first.
Alex checks Lena out and aside from some swelling, she’s fine. Kara spends the day with her anyway just to be sure. Lena can’t say that she minds (she’s gotten a lot better about not working all the time.)
They stay on Kara’s couch, alternating between episodes of Mindhunter (Lena’s choice) and The Clone Wars (Kara loves Ahsoka okay.) They get up to use the bathroom, accept the deliveries of pizza (and potstickers) and change out Lena’s ice packs.
Around the fourth hour, Kara gets up to change Lena’s ice pack again. She asks her how she’s feeling. “Cold, but better” is all Lena replies. Kara looks at the injury and then she presses a kiss to make it feel better.
It’s totally normal and not at all weird. Kara’s given Lena forehead kisses before a bunch of times. Well, she’s almost given Lena forehead kisses a bunch of times. But she’s sure it’s fine.
Kara unintentionally catches the sound of Lena’s heart beating a little faster than normal. She’s sure it’s totally unrelated.
They keep watching tv. At one point they both reach for the last piece of pizza. Their hands bump into each other and Kara feels an actual honest-to-Rao static shock. They share a smile and she lets Lena have the last piece. Lena takes a few bites then holds it out in front of Kara, offering her a piece. Kara leans closer and just chomps right into it like it’s totally casual. Kara thinks it’s odd that Lena didn’t try to cut it in half first and that Kara just bit into it while Lena was holding it instead of taking the piece out of her hand. But that’s something that friends do...right? She’s sure she’s seen Alex do it before...with Kelly (and Maggie before that.) Well, Nia used to do it all the time...with Brainy. Hmm. Well, she’s sure there have to be some friends out there somewhere who behave like that. What other alternate explanation is there?
Lena takes her pizza back after Kara takes her bite. She doesn’t say a word about how Kara ate it, so either it’s not a big deal or she’s being polite about it, so Kara tries not to think about it. Kara hardly even notices when Lena doesn’t really fully move back to her side of the couch. They continue watching Mindhunter with Kara’s arm resting behind Lena’s head...
...right up until the moment that Anna Torv has a lesbian scene on screen and Lena realizes just how close she’s sitting next to Kara and she pulls away. It has nothing to do with watching a beautiful blonde in bed with a beautiful brunette on the tv, she tells herself. Things with Kara just come so naturally since she let her walls back down. Kara is hope, compassion, warmth and light and it’s just so easy for Lena to fall into her orbit...enough so that this time she happened to accidentally sit a little too close to Kara. All Lena did was rectify that by scootching back to her side of the couch and it just so happened to be at the moment a rather passionate lesbian scene was happening. Kara was smart enough to understand that and she was probably thinking the same thing, even though she hadn’t said anything...right?
Kara was not thinking the same thing. And the reason she hadn’t said anything is because she was speechless. Within the span of a few seconds, she’s seeing the stunning Anna Torv in bed with another woman, she’s realizing how close she is to the stunning woman sitting on her own couch and catches herself staring at Lena’s lips, neck and chest as Lena suddenly pulls away. Kara wonders when did she start staring at Lena’s lips, neck and chest? before immediately reprimanding herself with a don’t answer that. For a being powered by the sun who lives in California, Kara swears her body has never been more warm in her life.
Kara pauses the show to get another glass of water she finds herself needing to quench her sudden, desperate thirst. Lena asks Kara if she’ll bring her another ice pack. She’s not sure that she needs it for its original purpose, but it would help her cool down. She’s get it herself but Kara is already up and Lena needs a few seconds not being in Kara’s immediate proximity.
Kara brings Lena the ice pack and Lena thanks her for it. Kara asks Lena if she’s ready for her to unpause it. Lena tells her it’s late (it’s not) and she wonders if she should be heading home, omitting the fact that she doesn’t think she can handle unpausing that scene and being around Kara right now. Kara pouts her bottom lip and asks that Lena at least stay to finish the episode, then she’ll fly Lena home herself. Lena refuses to let Kara
They make it through the rest of the episode on opposite ends of the couch, stealing glances at each other when the other one isn’t looking, not realizing the other one is doing the exact same thing.
When it’s done, Lena alerts her driver where & when she needs to be picked up. Lena then leans over, putting her hand on Kara’s knee as she propels herself up and thanks Kara for having her over and taking care of her. Kara gets up and hugs her. They linger a little bit, Lena loving the feeling of being wrapped up in Kara’s arms and Kara enjoying holding Lena as close as physically possible.
They’re still really close when the hugs ends.
Lena presses a kiss to Kara’s cheek. She’s never done that before. Kara doesn’t say anything...she’s too busy thinking about the feel of Lena’s lips on her skin and how good it felt. She blushes a little.
Lena tells Kara her ride is downstairs and starts to head to the door. Kara snaps out of it “right! right!” and walks her to the door. As Kara opens it, Lena tells her she forgot something. Before Kara can ask what, Lena is grabbing a pen from her purse and a piece of Kara’s printer paper. She begins writing quickly.
“This is for you, but don’t open it until I tell you, okay? “Lena, wha-” “Do you trust me?” Lena asks as she finishes writing, folds the paper in half and seals it in an envelope. “Yes, of course” Kara doesn’t hesitate with her reply as she takes the envelope from Lena. She hugs Lena one last time before she watches her walk down the hall to the elevator.
Lena texts Kara when she gets home safely. Kara calls her and they chat for a few minutes before Kara starts asking Lena about the letter. Lena doesn’t give an inch beyond telling Kara it’s a surprise that slipped her mind until she was leaving. Kara asks what the occasion is and Lena tells her she’ll find out when she opens the letter. Kara tries not to pester her but she can’t help it. She only brings it up a few more times during the rest of their 57 minute phone call. Lena relents, telling her that Kara could open the letter whenever she wants but there’ll be a penalty. Kara wants to ask about the penalty, but Lena simply tells her good night and hangs up the phone.
After 42 agonizing minutes of debating whether or not to open it, Kara decides to risk the penalty. She opens the letter and her face beams as she reads it. She checks the time on her phone. 12:34am. She sends Lena another text. “You awake?” Lena replies back “Yes” fairly quickly. Kara calls her as soon she sees the reply. As soon as the call connects, Kara dives right in. “So I read the letter.” Lena waits for Kara to continue on, while Kara waits to see how Lena reacts. Lena breaks the silence first. “I see. So, I guess the question now is what would you like to do about it?” “Can I come over? Kara says nervously. Lena smiles wide, two sets of dimples on both cheeks. “Yes. I’ll meet you at the door.” Before she can make it to the front door, she hears Kara say “actually, I’m on your balcony” through her phone and sure enough, there she is.
Lena made Kara promise never to fly off or onto the balcony as Kara, only as Supergirl, to protect her identity. She should be upset that Kara broke that promise just now, but something about seeing Kara in her pajamas, a white tank top and bunny rabbit sweats, with the anticipation of what she thinks is about to happen, makes any trace of feeling upset disappear. At least for now; she might scold her in the morning.
Lena opens the door. They both say “hey” with 1,000 watt smiles on their face as Kara walks into the apartment. Kara fidgets with her hands. They both know why she’s there and it’s exciting yet terrifying at the same time and she can’t find the words. Lena places her hands on Kara’s and she calms down.
“Yes.” “Yes?” “Your letter...what you said. You were right and I’d like that very much.” “I’m...very, very glad to hear that.” Kara starts to walk over to Lena but Lena puts a hand on Kara’s chest to stop her. “I think there’s something you need to do first.” Kara looks confused, before Lena mouths the answer to her. Kara feels a little foolish “Oh, right!” She takes a deep breath, holds on to Lena’s hands “Lena, would you like to go out on a date...w-w-with me?” Lena beams up as she looks into Kara’s eyes and says “Yes Kara, I’d like that very much.” Kara is overwhelmed with joy. “Awesome! Um...Lena?” “Yes Kara” “Can I kiss y-” Lena’s lips are on her before she can finish the question. She really likes the feel of Lena’s lips. It’s a short, sweet kiss that’s both perfect and yet not enough. Lena pulls back “you were going to ask if you could kiss me right?” “Yep” “Okay good” Lena replies and then she kisses Kara again, her left hand holding Kara’s hip, the right one on the back of her neck. Kara has her left hand along the side of Lena’s torso and puts the her right on Lena’s face and caresses it with her thumb as she deepens the kiss.
The keep kissing like that for a while. It wasn’t until it escalated and Kara moved from Lena’s mouth to her jawline to her neck, causing Lena to open her eyes that either of them noticed they had been floating up towards Lena’s ceiling, the realization causing them both to come crashing down. Kara broke Lena’s fall and Lena’s couch broke Kara’s. They started laughing; first Lena, then Kara.
Once they got up and Kara pushed the two halves of the now destroyed couch to the side of the room, she walked over to Lena, held her hand and asked Lena “so, what should we do now?” “I’d like to head to bed - not like that. If you’re up for it, I want to talk about this...a-a-about us, and I didn’t expect the furniture in my living room to need replacing at 1:00am” Kara let’s out a chuckle and tells Lena to lead the way.
Lena and Kara continued talking until after 3am about everything. When they started realizing feelings, what this meant for their relationship, their sexualities (Lena had been with two other women before, but this was a first for Kara), for Supergirl, before both women felt too tired to continue. Kara kissed Lena goodnight and headed for the balcony when she asked Kara where she thought she was going. Kara said she was going home when Lena told her she was too tired to fly, that she’d feel better if Kara stayed the night and that she had a spare toothbrush in the top drawer of her bathroom cabinet. Kara couldn’t argue with any of those facts even if she wanted to. They both got ready for bed and then climbed into Lena’s mattress, Kara holding Lena in her arms.
At 6am, Lena’s alarms went off. She called Jess (her secretary), telling her she’d be out for the day and woke Kara up just enough to have her text Nia the same. Andrea wouldn’t be happy but Lena would smooth it over for Kara later. They both fell back asleep until around 9:47. Lena got up, brushed her teeth, used mouthwash before crawling back under the covers and into Kara’s arms.
Kara awoke not too long after that and after quickly kissing Lena in bed (she slept in Lena’s bed!) She went to brush teeth and use mouthwash as well. It wasn’t long afterward that they found themselves in bed again without a lot less spoken words and clothes than the night before.
When they both finally came down from their respective (and mutual) highs, and compliments were shared between a few lazy kisses, Kara suddenly to ask Lena a question. “So...what was your penalty for me opening the letter too soon?” Lena just laughed and said “Darling, I adore you but there was never going to be a penalty...especially after you just gave me a orgasm like that.” Kara smiled and kissed Lena again.
Across town, the sun shined through on an abandoned letter on the floor of Kara’s apartment.
“My Dearest Kara,
Darling, I’m in love with you. I’m sorry to be so blunt and to possibily be saying this to you for the first time in a letter, but as I’m writing this I think you’ve just started to realize you feel the same way. If this is something we haven’t discussed by the time you’ve read this letter, whether you were too impatient in waiting to read it or I’ve been too cowardly to approach you, please...find me and talk to me. And if you don’t feel the same way, I’ll understand and I’m sorry. But please don’t let me put up walls again.
Yours,
Lena”
