Annual Reminder for Americans on Tumblr!!
Please Please limit your use of/be cautious of lighting any fireworks this Fourth of July.
For people who live in rural areas: Make sure your lawn and your neighbor's lawns are damp and that there isn't a county wide Burn Ban in place. For example: I live in rural TX and sometimes we have Burn Bans in place to prevent the spread of fires
If you live somewhere where fireworks are permitted, Please take safety precautions:
Have an available water source nearby to put any out that might be either duds or not lit properly
Use proper handling techniques (protect your eyes, face, hands...even wear a mask if necessary to prevent inhaling something)
When you light fireworks, DO NOT HOLD ONTO THEM AND BE STUPID!! PEOPLE LOSE THEIR FINGERS/HANDS EVERY YEAR.
BE SMART, DON'T GET SENT TO THE E.R.
Be courteous of your neighbors if they're in hearing distance. Some people (veterans, victims of DV, etc) might have triggers like loud sounds and bangs (how a firework sounds) that could possibly trigger a panic attack, flashbacks, or other PTSD symptoms. Others might have neurodivergence and respond negatively to loud, unexpected and repeated noises
Same as the previous point, be courteous. Some people have pets and my god these poor animals don't know what's going on. If you absolutely need to, call your local vet or trusted websites that are knowledgeable about animal health and safety, on possible medications or soothing techniques to calm your pets down.
So if there's anything else I missed, please reblog and add onto the post or put it in tags. Regardless of your political ideologies on America and the Fourth, people need to be responsible and know/practice safety for themselves and others if they plan on celebrating July Fourth this way.
