FutureQuest plot
I want a modern day show that is what Star Trek was to the previous generation. Not like a modern version of the same show, but an ideal depiction of the future.
We don’t have to ever even discuss how they got there, but show us a world where people are cared for, supportive, full of love & wonder, and the goal of society is a deep level of happiness and being content with one’s self. Any problem is a problem that can be fixed. Give me open, changeable/evolving characters wandering through and open world.
(now that that’s out of my system, the plot begins)(and i will say too much)
Our character is a young adult in the city who has a smooth way of riffing off the city’s vibes. Called to action by the mysterious Destiny Star System (DSS), they are alerted that a family member/loved one has gone missing under suspicious circumstances. In these modern times, everyone knows that an adventure such as this is a rare and valuable opportunity for finding joy through problem solving and exploring AND helping a loved one! Who could say no?! Oh yeah, and it will require venturing into space.
Pressured into leaving their comfortable city life, [name] is thrust aboard a cargo transport full of friendly crew persons with questionable intentions. (Perhaps one has a quarrel with the lost fam about an ancient grudge that was held onto that left someone bitter till death (the ultimate future bummer)) The group grows closer through trials of encountering new forms of life (always treated with openness, though some people are a little jumpy), strange space phenomenon, and the secret plot of the crew (maybe they are all one family? or adoptive family?) to lead the main character astray so that the lost person stays lost and (either) a new grudge is entered into [name]’s family line OR the grudge is settled. The crew wrestles with their morals as they grow attached to [name], who has a way of having good luck at just the right times and always asks the right questions to help ppl solve their problems and follows up with a joke to make everyone comfortable.
I think animal sidekicks are overdone, BUT i think [name] could have some kind of brain worm that they can talk to in their mind. Or maybe a child living on the ship befriends them and gives an odd perspective.
Eventually after much ado, the crew decides to break their grudge contract and help [name] find their person. Once reunited they stick with the crew and are all on the run from a mysterious group/villain (perhaps the DSS who claim to offer them sanctuary).
Feedback and ideas welcome!
