Dear Belle, Maui reached out to us to let us know about the problems you've been having with your father, and we'd like to help. Maui said you'd feel more comfortable meeting in person, so why don't you come down to my office in the Department of Mysteries? That way we can figure out the best way to help you, and get your father home safe and sound. Maybe we can even find a way to turn this into something good for you. Cheers, Chrissy
Belle was surprised to receive the strange letter, but as soon as she read the opening sentence, she tore through the rest of it. Maui had said they would contact her soon, and here they were. And, she would have the chance to go to the Department of Mysteries? To actually get help from someone that high up? Because she mattered to them? Immediately, she grabbed a spare quill and piece of parchment, and wrote out her reply, barely stopping herself from splattering ink as she did so.Â
Dear Chrissy,Â
I will be there tomorrow. My father is seriously ill, and he needs help getting out of France immediately. I will do whatever it takes to bring him home. I’ll see you then.Â
Belle
An Urgent Request
Maeve,
I apologize for the short notice but a friend of mine is in dire need of help and I could think of no one better to turn to then you and your associates. Her name is Belle Moore and her employer, Mr. Gregory Dubois, has wrongfully extorted her and her father for payment of a debt. There was an agreement made that she would work for him to pay off their debt but he has gone behind her back and persuaded her father to work in horrible conditions to pay off the debt faster. The two of them have been cut off from one another and her father is not physically fit to be doing the work Dubois has asked of him. I suspect Dubois has other plans for Belle aside from just paying off a debt and is using her father as leverage against her. I can verify the majority of all of this as I’ve seen it via my growing abilities, but she would prefer to meet with you in person and explain the situation further if possible. Her father’s health is deteriorating rapidly so I must ask you to respond with the utmost urgency. I fear we may be running out of time. Please let me know if anything can be done.
Maui
Dear Mr. Hoapili,Â
I appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention. My colleague Chrissy Nickles is very interested in reaching out to Ms. Moore and assisting her with this matter. We understand that time is of the essence and will make time for this as soon as possible.Â
Yours truly, Maeve Wilburn
You Know We Know || Ziggy & Maeve
Maeve: *sitting straight-backed in her chair as she flips through several papers within a folder showing the evidence that had been delivered to her in private. She pauses and checks the clock on the wall before tapping her pen in irritation. one minute to go before he was officially late.*
Ziggy: When Ziggy had gotten the official summons to meet and “chat” with the Head of Magical Security and Defense, he knew exactly what they were going to talk about. At least, he thought he did. The way they told him to come down was odd and if Ziggy was stupid he would have assumed they didn’t know what happened. /But that was impossible./ There was no other reason for him to talk with these people. They knew and this was probably just a way around causing a scene and arresting him in Hogsmeade.
Ziggy couldn’t lie, he felt sick to his stomach, but he knew what would happen if he didn’t comply. He had no idea what his excuse was going to be for why he killed it, but even if he had to rot in jail, it was better than getting chased down and killed by dementors. The wizarding world had an interesting outlook on capital punishment… that was for sure. At least he was underaged.
He was escorted to the office by someone, but he didn’t open the door when they got there. His eyes read the letters on the outside of the office and his heart started to pound again. Why was he here instead of at the Auror station? Why was he talking to “Wilburn” and not some Auror?
After a deep breath, he opened the door and walked in. He wasn’t sure what was going to happen from this point on, but he had a sinking feeling it wasn’t going to be good.
Maeve: *peers up from her desk and watches the young man. She takes in his appearance, carefully calculating things in her mind as the room ticked with silence.* “Ah, Mr. Angton. Have a seat, will you?” *smiles softly and gestures toward a chair in front of her desk*
Ziggy: The door shut behind him and the room and the room filled with a dreaded silence. He didn’t look up at first, his eyes were glued to the floor. For the first time in his life, he didn’t have a plan on what he was going to say. Every story he ran through his head sounded like bullshit.
When the woman finally spoke up, he walked forward and sat down in front of her desk. His eyes were still looking down, but in a last-minute effort, Ziggy used all his strength to look up at her. Whatever was going to happen, he was going to finish strong.
Maeve: *She eyes him over once more, waiting for his gaze to raise. When it does, she smiles and straightens her back* “So… the reason you’ve been summoned here today is, in part, due to your involvement in a recent case that made its way across my desk.” *she pauses and checks to see his reaction*
Ziggy: In part? The phrase made Ziggy furrow his brow in confusion, but he could only assume that she didn’t mean to say that. There was no other reason for him to be there, as far as Ziggy was aware, this attack on the werewolf was his only offense.
As much as Ziggy wanted to play dumb, he also knew he had been sloppy in the killing. One background check on him and they would have his motive, one apartment search and they would have the murder weapons. Instead, he let out a small breath and nodded.
Maeve: *Maeve opens the folder on her desk and eyes some papers curiously before sliding them forward to him, gesturing at photos taken from the crime scene, in all their gore* “What did you use to inflict these wounds?”
Ziggy: Answering that question was damning, but he didn’t see a way out of it. She wasn’t asking him if he did it, she was asking him /how/ he did it.  The best thing he could do now was comply and not make this anymore difficult for himself. “I used a gun,” He replied, his voice was soft but it wasn’t trembling.
Maeve: *Her look remains impassive, however she is impressed. Sliding the papers back toward her, she checks them over once more* “A gun, you say? Do you know the make and model?"
Ziggy: “I made the gun myself, but the base of it is similar to a Desert Eagle Marlin BFR. It’s modified.” He replied, remembering the months of research he put into making this weapon.
Maeve: *Maeve stops and looks at him curiously, her papers forgotten.* “You said you made it yourself? Interesting… that’s quite a bit of prep-work. Any reason?”
Ziggy: “Because I wanted to use a certain type of ammo and it didn’t fit most styles. The desert eagle had the largest barrel of the hand guns, but I needed it to be larger.”
Maeve: *nods* “Alright, I suppose that answers the technical side of things. I’m surprised, Mr. Angton, that you aren’t attempting to deny what you’ve done. It shows a resounding strength of character, to accept the consequences of your actions.” *she sighs and stands up to place her hands behind her back and stretch her legs* “However, that doesn’t inform me as to the reasoning behind them."
Ziggy: It was hard to take any compliments at the moment. As much as he was thankful she wasn’t telling him he was going to rot in hell, he wasn’t exactly going to hold on to her comment about him being a strong character as he rotted /in jail/. Ziggy thought it made him look more defeated than anything. Why deny something they already knew?
Which was why her next question caught him off guard. He thought his entire life would have investigated at this point since they knew it was him. Maybe she just wanted to hear him say it. “I fought in the Salem war when I was 15 and before it finished a werewolf attacked me and…” He took in breath, not wanting to say it, but also not wanting them to find out on their own, “Ripped off my right leg.” It was short, it was blunt, but it was almost painful to say.
Maeve: “And this incident, with your leg… it’s motivated you this far to slay this creature?” *she taps the file, but doesn’t sit down* “That’s quite a bit of pent-up anger. If you weren’t caught, what were you planning to do?”
Ziggy: Ziggy was silent for a moment. He knew his answer, but if he said it aloud, they would think he was crazy. Maybe he was crazy? He was already fucked, what was the point of lying? He had been lying since he got to Hogwarts and it practically made him dead inside. He slowly looked up again, his tone dark, “Continue to kill as many as I could have gotten away with.”
Maeve: *Maeve’s smile doesn’t change, but the intention behind it does. This was the answer she wanted.* “And yet your equipment is fairly unfunded…” *she approaches his chair and sits on the edge of her desk looking down at him, her arms crossed* “These files I’ve shown you are private. So far, only my eyes have seen them. The aurors that also found your crime scene never saw most of this evidence.” *she taps the folder once more* “but it was certainly enough to easily track you down. It was sloppy, but I’m sure that wasn’t intentional. Someone who spends the time manufacturing his own gun doesn’t tend to be sloppy all the time, or am I wrong?"
Ziggy: The woman’s reply was everything Ziggy thought it wouldn’t be. He almost couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Underfunded? Private? It almost felt like she was offering him something. Ziggy’s features changed from dark to curious. Who was this woman?
“That was the first one,” He replied and then looked back at the desk in front of him. Her smile was unnerving, almost contrapuntal to the scene. “I lost myself in it. Once I saw how well it worked, I just had to unload the clip on it. I was sloppy, that much is obvious, but it was my emotions that got in the way. I wouldn’t have done that to the others.”
Maeve: *Maeve takes a breath and nods* “I see. Emotions are fickle things. But you do believe that you can control them in the future, correct?” *she enjoys that he seems so honest, and willing to cooperate*
Ziggy: Surely more was going to happen than a simple slap on the wrist. The idea of no longer knowing what was going to happen, made him nervous and he clenched his jaw in response. "Correct."
Maeve: “Good.” *Maeve leans back and takes a breath.* “Mr. Angton, I believe you are aware of who I am? My name or my station, either works.”
Ziggy: "You're the Head of Magical Security,"
Maeve: “Correct. In essence, I control the defense of our world, or at least I control those who maintain it. It is a position with a lot of power and with it comes a great deal of responsibility.” *Maeve straightens her back* “So when I say that only my eyes have seen these papers, this is true. When I give an order to protect the well-being of the citizens of our nation, it is obeyed and not questioned… You, Mr. Angton, I plan to use. You, and your motivations, and your skill.”
Ziggy: “What do you want me to do?” He replied calmly. He would have to be a fool to deny this woman. Instead of locking him up and throwing away the key, she was making him an offer. An offer that seemed almost too good to be true… But he didn’t really have a choice.
Maeve: “First, I want you to listen and understand.
“Under normal circumstances, with a case such as this I would leave the evidence to the aurors so that they might arrest and convict the perpetrator to the fullest extent of the law… And yet I have decided this is a special instance. You are not known for your wonton murder, and despite some PTSD reactions to situations out of your control, you are not reported to be a violent person. In fact, reports from the incident at your school all display you as a man of duty, heroics, and skill. I believe I can use this.
“Werewolves are not the most savory of creatures, but beyond their obvious flaws they present an even greater threat to the community as a whole. And I have the authority to grant their removal in the most unofficial and non-public way possible. Do you understand what I’m saying?”
Ziggy: Yes, he understood fully, but he almost couldn't believe it. "You're saying that you're dismissing my case and in return you want me to cull the werewolf population, right?"
Maeve: "under my explicit and direct guidance. Names, locations, and patterns can be provided, and should you wish to add one you bring the suggestion to me. However, you must also be aware that this is not a public move, and should you get caught you are on your own. Got it?" *Her tone before more severe, as she slowly takes a breath and leans back on her desk into a more comfortable position* "For your case... As far as anyone is aware, there is no case. It never happened, and there was no evidence linking you to the creature." *Maeve smiles once more* "I could blackmail you with the files, however I get the sense that you want this and can see the value in what I'm offering."
Ziggy: "Yes," He replied, and then nodded along to the rest of what she was saying. This was actually quite dark and perhaps one of the reasons why people had such a problem with the ministry, but Ziggy was already neck deep and couldn't see himself getting out of it any other way. He could continue to hunt werewolves under the supervision of the Ministry, or he could refuse and go to jail... or worse. "Understood." Maeve seemed like a no bullshit kind of woman, so Ziggy gave her answers that matched. "Is it just werewolves that I'm hunting?"
Maeve: *Maeve eyes him curiously as he takes it all really well* “For the moment, yes.” *she sighs and gets off of her desk, slipping back behind it to open up a cabinet in search of a binder* “There is a much larger threat at play here than just werewolves, however they play a role in it. We must protect the people of our nation and do what we must to keep it safe.” *she grabs a binder and turns* “Your role in all of this plays into a larger plan as well. Hopefully, you will be brought into the loop on what it is. For now, though, you will have to prove your worth before you can know.” *Maeve hands him the thin binder* “Here are a few names and locations for you to check out. See which are possible for you, and which are not. If you need funds or materials, I can provide them for you."
Ziggy: Ziggy took the binder from her, but avoided looking into it at the moment. The full moon was coming up very soon and he would have his work cut out for him. "The first few I will probably be fine with, though, when I do need funds, how do I contact you?" He asked and then his eyes looked at the folder containing the evidence. "I also want to know if there are any spells I can use to make my presence go more undetected or who I should go to to find out."
Maeve: *Maeve nods* “Contact me through owl. Maeve Wilburn. Keep your questions and answers as vague as possible, but if you wish you can also ask to meet in person. I’ll try to find time.” *she steps forward and sighs* “As far as spells go, there are a few you can try, but invisibility charms do a good job of things. Cleaning spells as well, but I think a lot of your efforts should be to avoid leaving a magical trace. Too much magic in an area does set off alarms, you know. We also attempt to read the spells performed to get an idea of what happened at a scene. The more magic in that concentrated area, the easier it is to read.”
Ziggy: "Do potions count as magic? Or are you just talking about ones that are performed with a wand?"
Maeve: “wand ones leave trace. Potions do not, unless you spill it."
Ziggy: "The bullets I use have potion in them and explode on impact, so far it's proven to be the best way to kill werewolves. I'm pretty sure that counts as spilling it."
Maeve: “What’s inside of them?” *maeve pulls out a piece of paper and a pen and hands it over* “write down what it is here and I’ll pry into whether or not it can be obtained.” *she thinks for a moment* “Your file didn’t have mention of the potion, but better safe than sorry."
Ziggy: "I might be able to change the formal a bit if there are ingredients that will show through, but other than that, if I get the right stuff, I might not even need to use magic." Ziggy took the paper from the woman and began to write down how he makes the potion. When he was done he slide it back to her side of the table.
Maeve: *Maeve quickly picks up the list and folds it, placing it within his folder.* “Well, depending on what those things are, it might be possible. Contact me with the details of what you might require. For the moment, I have other meetings I need to attend and matters to take care of.” *she sits down and begins sorting her papers* “Good luck on your hunts, Mr. Angton.”
Ziggy: Ziggy nodded to her reply and got up out of his chair, not wanting to waste anytime, including hers. This woman held quite a lot of power in her hands and she could make his life easy or absolutely horrible. It was best to just stay as professional and respectful as possible. "Will do, and thank you, Mrs. Wilburn." With that, he went to walk out of her office, binder in hand and heart filled with a new purpose. He had always wanted to be an Auror, and while he was most likely going to be working against him, it was similar in a few ways. This was his chance to show he wasn't damned because of his disability.
But first, he had to prove himself.

As Per Your Request
Dear Maeve,
I have found Star Muny. She is still a little nervous but I believe she will cooperate as long as I’m there with her to reassure her. All I need is a time and a place and I’ll see to it she gets there safely. I’ll be waiting for your reply.
Maui
Dear Maui,
Thank you. I’m setting up a meeting with one of my collegues to meet you two and to speak to the girl. Her name is Chrissy Nickles and she’ll be in charge of Star once we get her out of the school safely.
Sincerely, Maeve Wilburn
You've Been Summoned
Dear Mr Ziggy Angton,
Evidence has come to our attention regarding your suspected involvement in a case currently under the Department of Magical Defense. We request your immediate arrival at the London office to speak with our Head of the Department, Maeve Wilburn on these matters.
Please be aware a travel ban has been placed on your person and withdrawal from the country is prohibited.Â
Your appointment time is at 12:30pm on Wednesday, July 5th.
Sincerely, Maeve Wilburn Head of Magical Security and Defense
__________________________________________________________
When the letter arrived, Ziggy stuffed it into his pocket and paced back and through his apartment. Tim wasn’t there and he was thankful for that, knowing it only would have made things more difficult. Hopefully, Tim could pay rent on his own, otherwise, the boy would have to go back to being homeless. Ziggy was almost positive once he went in for his “appointment” he wouldn’t be coming back out.Â
This was it. He didn’t know how, but the ministry had found out what he did and now he was going to pay for it. The thought of running crossed his mind, but he didn’t know where he would go. He was trapped. Chained to Hogsmeade like the dogs he had been hunting.Â
Did he want to tell anyone? The Gryffindor thought about this long and hard but decided against it. Apologies, last words, goodbyes… They all seemed too painful to think about. He’d rather just be arrested and taken to jail, leaving his family and friends wondering what happened. It was cruel, it was mean, but Ziggy couldn’t handle this anymore…

We Need an Update
Dear Mr. Thatch,
We have left a large number of the documents in your care and request an immediate progress report on your findings.Â
Our project timeline has been pushed up.
Thanks, Chrissy
Ms. Chrissy,
I am doing the best I can to have these pieces completed promptly. Â However, I fear that a rushed process will lead to errors and mistakes and such would make further work far more difficult. Â I cannot guarantee that I will have everything completed by the new deadline.
Please find the attached documents for what I was able to complete on such short notice.
Sincerely, Milo

Request For More Resources
Dear Maeve,
I think I may be onto something that will help further my goals. However I require more resources than I currently have access to. If I am to move forward with my search I’m going to need to be able to access the restricted section of the Hogwarts library. If you could do anything about that I would greatly appreciate it.
For your consideration, Maui
Dear Mr. Hoapili,
I would be happy to grant you permission to seek further materials from the library at Hogwarts. I will being putting through the paperwork immediately to dictate that you have been given special research grant rights in using it.Â
Because of this grant, I suspect many of the professors who are located within the school should be accommodating as well. However, should they not be and you still require assistance, I will always be only a letter away.
Yours Truly, Maeve Wilburn
@shapeshifterdemigod
Dear Milo Thatch,
That is wonderful news! I’m enclosing a series of documents that the Ministry requires you to sign before aiding in this endeavor; contract of work and several non-disclosure agreements.
I wish to stress the importance of not revealing your findings about the language or the contents of the materials we have found to anyone not officially let in on this project, Ministry or otherwise. Clearance levels are of high priority within the Ministry and sharing the information discovered during the course of this endeavor will result in heavy legal repercussions.
Once the documents are signed I can begin sending some of the work we have done and some copies of the texts. Officially I cannot release the true texts to you outside of the Ministry of Magic’s vault, but should you ever wish to view them or work with them, please do not hesitate to ask. I am very willing to provide access to you and allow for any other materials you might require.
Please review the documents attached, and thank you again, Mr. Thatch, for your willingness to help us on this project.
Sincerely, Charles Martin
Charles Martin,
Of course, I understand and I thank you once again for entrusting me onto such a highly important job. Â Please find the signed documents attached.
Once I have received the files, I can begin working for you. Â However, I should warn that it may take me some time as I still have a responsibility to my teaching duties. Â I hope that does not deter you from selecting me for this project.
Sincerely, Milo Thatch
Dear Milo Thatch,
We would like to wish you a good start to the new semester at Hogwarts, and to inform you that your glowing recommendations and skill in the art of languages has been noticed by those within the Ministry of Magic.
It is our goal to contact and employ you on a freelance basis for the descyphering of several new texts we have come upon in the recent year. These texts are of unknown origin and unknown language and have given our translators at the Ministry a hard time with their translation.
Your skill with dead languages and your specialization in descyphering has caught our eye and we would be very grateful for your assistance in this endeavor. Please write back to let us know if you are interested.
Sincerely, Charles Martin
To Mister Charles Martin,
Thank you for seeking me and my studies. Â I am both honored and, quite frankly, bewildered at your request. Â I daresay that I could possibly be of a greater resource than the Ministry translators, but I shall do my best. Â That is to say, I gladly accept the opportunity to help in deciphering your texts.
Please forward any and all relevant materials for me whenever you are ready for me to begin.
I look forward to hearing back and hope that I can be of excellent assistance.
Sincerely,
Milo Thatch
Dear Maui,
Writing to check in on you and see how you're doing with your magical endeavors? I hope things are becoming easier for you in the castings department, as you should be getting a tad more powerful. Let me know if there's anything you need to continue your search, or perfect your technique. I'm a wonderful instructor, or so I've been told.Â
Cheers, Chrissy
Dear Chrissy,
Everything is going well so far. My power is increasing at a slow enough rate for me to keep up with. My technique could use a little work as I’m not really use to this type of magic but it’s nothing I can’t handle right now. If I need anything I’ll be sure to contact you.Â
Thank you again for your help, Maui.
