It Kills Me…
It kills me that after like ten years or so I'm able to find myself happily playing Age of Empires II. This is a game that I had such fond memories of playing as a child. Playing and replaying the campaigns, trying to "do better" on them. Then AoE III came out and I was really excited cause why wouldn't I be. I mean my favorite game series was getting a another installment... I was wrong. With a limited amount of towers to be built, a really uncomfortable narrative story and just other things I kinda hated it. It wasn't and isn't a bad game per se, but it just didn't fill me with the same joy or wonder. So I kinda wrote the series off, sometimes returning to play a few campaigns here or there, but never really got wrapped up in it again... Then fucking Steam announced Age of Empires II HD!!! I'm sitting there as a 24 y/o girl and going "well that seems fun, updated graphics will help." Fuck! The Forgotten campaigns all though buggy reminded me of and filled me with that same joy I had when I was a child. There's new civilizations and campaigns and items to play around with in editor, and a more easily accessible multiplayer. I come back to a game like ten plus years later and I'm just as in love with it. Then I finally find out that there's a following for this game of people who are just as in love with it, especially people like ZeroEmpires, who does reviews and play tutorials and even made a game rebalance mod. I'm pumped. It's not often you can come back to a game and love it more than you did originally. And now there's even more with the African Kingdoms expansion. Again it's kinda buggy but I love it! I really hope that the game continues to grow, and the people making it know that there are people out here who love the content they are making. I love this game and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys RTS. Wololo ❤️ Also anyone who is friends with me on Steam knows my very quantifiable love for this game……
