Tiger Lilly - talks about a wide range of stuff
PYRAMID PARK – ‘BORN TO BE BRAVE’
Welcome to 2018 as I slowly try to get to grips with new demands on my time. Following recent major changes to my daily routine I made a start on Hogmanay by posting about my intentions for the way ahead - I will wait to see what I can achieve in the future in that regard. After a brief hiatus since ceasing radio work I soon returned to selecting a 'track of the month', particularly for the amazing young 'Mayonnaise' team at TD1 Radio seeing as how I was no longer in a position to broadcast myself. My first selection for the new year is courtesy of the ever dependable Emma at 'http://www.plugginbaby.com/', it is 'Born to be Brave' from Cambridge band Pyramid Park from their current album 'Vulnerability'. Recorded in Glasgow at GloWorm Studios it seems perfect to start the year with its positive and uplifting lyrics coupled with a catchy and upbeat instrumental accompaniment. This truly is a motivational anthem for a troubled world – and don't we really need one!
“daring to be more than ordinary, I was born to be brave”
“taking the plunge into vulnerability”
“no more hiding, no more running away”
“I will stand my ground”
“show up and be seen, stand up and step out”
Pyramid Park's album reached number 1 in the UK Christian & Gospel iTunes chart and has since been named album of the week on Life FM, Switzerland, with plenty of airplay across the UK and beyond. They have recently returned from a short tour in Germany, with the band set to travel to New Zealand to play Festival One for the first time with more festivals in the UK and abroad set for 2018.
Emma Scott of UK’s Pluggin’ Baby:
Love this quote about Jupiter In Velvet from my lovely friend Chris Straw at Bauer Radio "If David Bowie had fronted Black Sabbath it would have sounded something like this! He breathes new life into a genre that many had written off".

MEET DRONNINGEN
DRONNINGEN are a London-based electro-rock assault squad.
Formed in August 2014, the four-piece band currently consists of Beatrice Bonnano on lead vocals/guitar (Italy), Vito Cerasia on lead guitar (Italy), Amélie Gerbet on drums (France), and Wai Ting So on bass (Hong Kong).
Regardless of their cultural differences, they all landed in the UK with a common goal: to make music for a living. Above all, they’re highly determined, impassioned and hungry for live shows!
Dronningen’s debut EP Royal Riot came out in 2016, comprised of 3 songs showcasing their early approach to electro-rock music.
After extensive gigging in London, Derby, Leeds, Southampton, Basingstoke, Reading and beyond, the band is now prepared to release their brand new Sugarbox EP (June 2017).
Three new original songs (“Sugarbox,” “Taxi Driver,” “White Saliva”) and a bonus track (“She’s Gone Insane”) capture the raw energy of their live shows.
Compared to their previous release, the band’s sound has changed noticeably, shifting from the digitally polished tunes of the past to a more primal, organic and wild sonic palette.
Their electronic components have not disappeared, but Dronningen’s human element grows stronger with their newest record.
Sugarbox represents a new balance between the vulnerable nature of mortals and the cold perfection of machines.
The band says:
"Each song on the e.p. is a chapter of a journey: two bodies, two minds, two souls crossing each other’s path. They are not conscious of the consequences, they ignore what will be the outcome of this collision, they may not always be completely synchronized. We are trying to chronicle the whole experience without letting negative elements overwhelm our travelers. Ultimately this is the embodiment, the truest sonic rendition of what we believe in.
My Son The Bum Release New Single ‘Mad Man’
Download The Single For Free HERE
Just as their sound is eagerly mercurial, so the nature and adventure of My Son The Bum is winningly unpredictable. The brainchild of driving force Brian Kroll, My Son The Bum is a musical visual project, a studio based band with a dab hand at creating animated musical film shorts to accompany its imagination fuelled songs.
Hailing from Oceanside, New York, songwriter guitarist Brian flicked the switch on My Son The Bum in 2007, bringing his experiences with other bands and projects to a new creative venture equally drawing on his broad love of a vast array of sounds. They are flavours and influences which have in turn only gone to inspire a host of releases and tracks emerging as unique to each other as they are to offerings from artists around them.
From metal to rock, punk to pop, My Son The Bum has and continues to organically explore that kaleidoscope of sound; an instinct which across a handful of truly individual albums has simultaneously evolved a distinct character constant to the band.
The prime songwriter for My Son The Bum, Brian draws on a like-minded talent loaded core group of musical friends, among them John O.Reilly of Trans-Siberian Orchestra West and formerly of Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, who has been the exclusive drummer for the band to date. Similarly the craft and inventive guile of others like vocalist Mike Wuerth, bassist Mike Frost, and recently drummer Matt Graff has been embraced in the creation of songs as well as that within a flow of additional guests.
For the main, they have never met; few of them stood side by side in the studio to record the songs which burst hungrily from their instruments and subsequently from the speakers but it only adds to the instinctive tenacity and risk of the band’s rock ‘n’ roll.
It is fair to say that songs pour from the Brian’s imagination and ardour for different music, each taking their own path to create unique albums, like ‘Bipola Victrola’, ‘New Carnival’, and ‘Follow Me Like Me’, which musically standalone but are united in the voice of My Son The Bum.
There is no stopping the hungry invention and enterprise of My Son The Bum either as their new single “Mad Man (Playing In A Mad World's Game)”, due early 2017, proves with its fiercely infectious pop punk ‘n’ roll temptation. It is poised to trigger a year like no other for the band; like no other the perfect description of the impossible to pin down sound and ever eventful releases of My Son The Bum.
On the new single, Brian says: "I had a businessman dad and school teacher mum. Being a musician, which they didn't like, our relationship mirrored a rock musician in society/the music biz. While visiting, I picked up a pad and pen, stood there writing the lyrics to Mad Man. The lyrics I wrote on that pad are exactly what you hear in the song".

WHERE FIRES ARE - All Set To Release New Single ‘I've Got The Time’: From The New Ep: ‘One Four Six One’ Feb 3rd.
Adrenaline-fuelled, emotionally charged Alternative Rock.
Ash, James, Matt, Nick and Robbie first met back in 2010 at Leeds College of Music. By 2013, various other bands and solo projects had been and gone. Whilst on a night out on Leeds' own Call Lane - celebrating graduation - all five realised they were free to begin their next musical endeavour... and with a knocking together of beer bottles and a few handshakes, Where Fires Are was born.
Nick at an early age enjoyed playing piano. He remembers the first piece he ever wrote was in A minor because he liked the way it sounded (sad). Nick is a multi-instrumentalist, playing piano, guitar, synthesiser and guitar.
Before Where Fires Are formed Nick played in a Reggae band, touring extensively around UK Music Festivals. He also has a love for yoga and giraffes.
James has grown up with a diverse musical background. He has always had a passion for a variety of instruments and genres, eventually deciding on the Bass guitar as his weapon of choice. James attended Leeds College of Music in order to hone his skills, it was here where he met the remaining four members of Where Fires Are.
James' other interests include whisky, animals and drinking whisky with animals.
Robbie started playing guitar at age 13 and started singing at age 16. Looking up to frontmen such as Kurt Cobain, Brandon Boyd, Jonathan Davis and Michael Stipe from a young age - when the opportunity arose for him to form a band with Ash, James, Nick and Matt and take his place as Lead Singer, he jumped at the chance.
Before Where Fires Are he performed as an acoustic solo act for a few years. Other than music, the loves of his life are animals, video games, animal games and videos.
Ash has gigged extensively as a guitarist around the UK in bands for the past 10 years. This experience has developed a kinetic stage presence and a professional attitude to all performances.
Crafting songs is a true passion of his and he enjoys the challenge and patience needed to try and create something that has purpose and is original. His love of effects pedals and pushing them to their limits are a key factor to his sound. Whether its creating single note soundscapes or thrashy wall of sound guitar chords, they are all essential features to his sound.
Matt says he started playing drums at the age of 2. Unfortunately for the rest of the band he hasn’t improved since then. He’s a 1980’s hair metal frontman trapped inside the body of a modern-day drummer.
Matt’s passions include cooking, keeping fit, cheating at poker and accurately mimicking the sounds of a Moto Speedway.

" I’ve Got The Time is a song with a very basic premise - guy likes girl, girl doesn’t feel the same way.
The guys feelings for the girl are so strong that he claims he has the time to wait indefinitely, in the hope that one day she feels differently. The ‘sea of green’ refers to the girls eyes but can also be interpreted as envy. There is an indication that the guy believes the girl already has strong feelings for him but is scared of admitting it and allowing herself to become vulnerable - ‘I can hear it in the way you talk you’re scared of drowning here…’
