Insane headcanons and redesign (slightly in Blizzaria and Plundros’s cases, a TON Damona’s case) about Damona, Blizzaria, and Plundros below but you have to hear me out…
Blizzaria and Plundros are married; Damona is their daughter. Further rambling below the cut.
Ok. Ok ok ok. For context we’re going off of the video game lore; So Damona is the Oni princess, daughter of Plundros. She has curse inspirits and strength of Yet she resembles and has the ice powers of Blizzaria. So here’s how I think that all came to be.
Blizzaria was a very popular Yokai to have on teams for Yokai Watch Blasters (before 3Ds wifi got shut down rip), since she’s an elemental oriented S rank. And as you all know, Oni are the enemies in Terror Time, later expanded to various boss Yokai as well. So in my headcanon, since the Oni are canonically befriendable, Blasters became less of a fight, and more of a sporting event, where Yokai teams battle against Boss Yokai to prove their strength. So Blizzaria (who I made look more like she’s freezing/has hypothermia given how she died) and Plundros (who I gave human proportions to fit my artstyle better), both finally found themselves evenly matched in combat. And so the two fell in love, joining forces as a power couple; an eternal winter meeting unstoppable strength! Later on, the two bore a daughter; Damona, who had her mother’s magic and her father’s muscle. (shown in my Damona redesign)
Being lovers forged in the throes of battle, Damona’s parents took great pride in Damona’s innate talents, and took to training her since she was small in combat. Her father, who was bested by Blizzaria’s ice, encouraged Damona to pursue magic techniques. Her mother, who was bested by Plundros’s fighting, encouraged Damona to purse physical strength. Though the two meant well, this put a ton of pressure on Damona, who felt like she had to be the best of both worlds due to her heritage.
Now, apparently in YW3, it’s confirmed that Damona was only faking losing her emotions in exchange for limitless power (I think, I generally skip over YW3 for… reasons :’)), but I’m retconning that. In my head, when Damona became an adult, she did find a Yokai (who isn’t decided yet) who could give her the power she was looking for to please her family, and in exchange she’d be cursed to give up most of her favorite things, like tempura, sweets, her cursing abilities, and basically anything that was solely for pleasure and not progress. Desperate to live up to expectations, she took the deal, which manifests in a way similar to depression.
Once her parents realized what had happened, they were heartbroken and ashamed of how far they pushed her, blaming themselves but never each other or Damona. As a result, the two hatched a plan: Blizzaria would venture off to the human world in hopes of contacting the Watch-holder to help her find and defeat the one who cursed her daughter. Plundros would secede from his post as the Oni king to watch over Damona and try to find places she enjoys that weren’t embargoed by her curse, all in a desperate effort to bring her back to her original self.
The above drawing is a family portrait taken right before Blizzaria set off to the human world, hence why both look so concerned for Damona, who literally lost the light in her eyes.
If you read this far, thank you for your time! Have a great day :)
Y'know? I'll never understand why Plundros has what appears to be a tattoo design on his stomach, if that's a tattoo, it must have hurt... However, according to what a Discord User called TNTvale told me, he's a pirate, and the loss of his eye was probably more hurtful, and I think that's a fair point.
To represent this thing that I don't understand, I drew Gabi (My OC) staring at Plundros' Tattoo, wondering "Why is there a tattoo on his belly? I'm almost sure it must have hurt..."
