#pnf headcanons

I respect Dan and Swampy so much, but I also don't subscribe to the idea that every word out of their mouths about canon lore is gospel.

Really, so much time has lapsed between the actual production process of any episode from the original Phineas and Ferb and now (and so many original screenwriters for the show haven't come back for the revival) that one should reasonably expect for some of the original intent and context behind minor decisions to be lost.

Also, sometimes not a lot of thought is put into a decision at all. These are happy accidents in production! Continuity, chronological timelines that make sense and whether or not Ferb's full name is "Ferbs" is NOT the point of the Phineas and Ferb show. The insignificance is oftentimes actually the point of a decision in a comedy show - because it's funny, or at least makes someone on the production team smile.

And to retroactively assign meaning to a thoughtless choice is... well, it's pretty shark-jumpy. There's no point to doing it other than to invent new content for fans to enjoy.

So unless something Dwampy say makes sense within the context of the Phineas and Ferb universe - or indeed unless it's painstakingly clear that their statements are backed up with original intent - I'm quite happy to take "official" lore with a grain of salt.

Here are some of mine that directly contradict the word of Dan and Swampy:

Linda and Lawrence were actually sweethearts prior to either of them having kids - this is when they actually attended the Love Handel concert together. Then something happened to put a pause on their relationship (Linda becoming Lindana, or Lawrence needing to go back home to England after his wonderful summer romance, or both). They reconnect after Linda has Phineas.

Phineas and Candace are half-siblings; one father was a donor from a sperm bank and the other was a brief boyfriend during her stint as an Astrophysicist. (Not Doofenschmirtz)

Ferb's full name is actually "Fergus" or "Ferguson". Phineas mistook the name as a tiny wee toddler and couldn't comprehend that "Ferb" wasn't his actual name - because Ferb was answering to him perfectly. And so the cute, silly nickname spread, until it was irreversible.

Phineas Flynn is haunted as he grows up; not by his past successes or the threat of being busted, but by his boredom.

It follows him everywhere, and becomes an issue for the first time when he gets into college or university. He is brilliant, whip-smart, and beloved by his peers and professors alike. He also changes his major three times then drops out within a year. It's not that the classes are too difficult for him, it's just that he is being asked to sit still and study the same thing for days, weeks, years on end. Sitting through four full years of one thing feels like absolute torture.

It keeps following him though, into trying to find work. It's not that Phineas isn't capable, he's able to pick things up significantly more quickly than the average person. However it's nearly impossible for him to hold down a job for any extended period of time because the monotony will always get to him. The demand to do the same things over and over, and the rules, oh God the rules. Why does he need to do things by the book when he has already come up with a dozen better ways to accomplish the same task, all before their lunch break?

This frustration would probably result in Phineas ending up as a self-employed consultant/contractor, giving him the flexibility he desperately needs. His friends and family would surely help support him while it's just starting up and with how strange their world gets, there's definitely not going to be a shortage of interesting things to get involved in.

Like yes, Phineas Flynn definitely needs an ADHD diagnosis but I also can't see him medicating that much for it. My headcannon for him sees him working with it and leaning into it (with help from the people around him) and living a happy and fulfilling life.

This random scene just popped into my head, where Doofenshmirtz pulls a lever to drop a cage onto Perry as usual, only Perry is just a little bit off with his placement so the cage accidentally smashes down onto his tail, and Perry lets out the most pathetic, high pitched chirp-whine sound

And Heinz immediately rushes over to lift the cage off like, "Oh! Perry the Platypus, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you- Well it was on the agenda, but not like this! Oh wow, yeah, that does look painful."

And they put a pause on their usual Good-Evil battle while Doof puts a cold pack and bandages on his tail. Of course he wants his nemesis in perfect condition for when they fight, even if the injury was something as small as a bruised tail.

Once the pain has dulled, they resume their usual fight, only this time they both mutually avoid hitting his tail.

If Doof hurts Perry in a way that wasn't pre-planned, he feels bad.

I like to think that candace and vanessa were friends before vanessa started dating stacy, but as soon as the two started dating, candace was like, "you are NO LONGER my friend. from now on you are my best friend's girlfriend, and if you hurt her, there's no saying what I'll do to you."

then vanessa is like "...so are we still on for going to the movies next week" and candace is like "yeah see you then"

I headcanon that adult ferb introduces all his friends to Flowers, one of the best british tv shows ever. Because it is 😭 funny bit would be Isabella and Vanessa staring at Amy Flowers like this

... Ferb does too, because well its sophia di martino how can you NOT be attracred to her- ahem, anyway phineas goes 'wow, she's really pretty, but all i need is my Isabella.' and they start acting so cute that Vanessa thretens to kick them out (but doesnt sound tbat tbreeatening, because shes looking at tbe tv screen like this)

Okay so, apparently in one of the PnF books it's revealed that while Perry is the top agent, he is assigned to the least credible threat (aka Doof), which... doesn't make sense

But then I thought of something.

Y'see one show I watch every once in a while is The Rookie, and in it there's this thing called "the golden ticket" - basically, if a cop does something above and beyond their duty, like bringing down a gang with only another cop supporting you but you being the one to call the shots

So, consider: Perry gained a golden ticket some time before he met Doof (thinking taking down a world-wide villain), and he used it to get assigned the least dangerous villain in Danville so he could be close to his family
