im tired of the sweet/nice/innocent/normal duke thomas characterization when we talk about the batfamily- esp since hes canonically jaded and sarcastic. like he has complicated feelings about his powers and gotham and the batfamily. and yes, he's nice, but he's also really smart and complex and a deeply interesting character that is pigeon holed like many poc characters are in media (like even cass tbh) to being the unproblematic, un-complex, self-actualized one instead of being given the attention and depth from fans as their white counter parts. and i know he's newer, in comparison to say bruce or dick, but he's here now and if i see him as the "actually really self-actualized" one in the new umbrella academy meme or as troy holding the pizza in the still from community (you know the one) im gonna loose it.

It was you and Jason’s third year anniversary
Naturally, Jason thought it was be a great surprise to take you to your favorite restaurant
Of course, the restaurant that you favored was exclusive, so it took him 5 months just to reserve 2 seats for one night
Gosh, you had expensive taste
You were both dressed in your best, looking like Gotham’s richest couple
Sitting in the velvet seats, you got confused glances towards you
You looked and felt great, so they couldn’t possibly be looking at you

As the waitor walked towards you guys, you started to feel out of place
You had a bad feeling in the pit of your stomach
The waitor passed you the menus

The only thing that you reminded him of was the tech genius part of Tim
One day in his AP robotics class, coincidentally the teacher partnered you guys
The task that was instructed was to overview and find mistakes in a program
Damian informed more like demand you to meet at his house
When you got to his house, you were met with Damian’s brothers leaving the manor
They all looked at you questioningly
You then felt a hand on your wrist pulling you inside
You looked at Damian confused as to why he didn't snatch his hand away from you as your body heat increased
Damian was used to feeling extreme heats back from training with Talia
So this was nothing
As you sat in the library of the manor, Damian stared at you

“Yeah, I’m sick.”
“Do you mind if I take your temperature?”
Before you could even respond, Damian slapped on a thermometer on your forehead
“How are you even alive right now, Your body heat is 201°f ?” Damian looked at you bewildered. He didn’t really know what to expect. He had a hunch you were a meta from the 1st day he saw you
Primarily because the room literally heated up as you walked in
“Well yeah, I’m extremely sick, maybe we should just work on the p-”
Damian cut you off by waving a Meta detecting device in front of you, the device flashing a green light.
“Uh, I. uh” You tried making an excuse but came to nothing
Damian looked unamused
“Please don’t tell anyone”

The next day as you turned in the duo assignment you caught up to Damian in the hallways
“What exactly did you mean by, we all have our own secrets?”
“It’s self-explanatory really, you have your secrets, I have mine. It was just my way of saying, I’ll keep your secret for you.”

As Damian's voice repeated in your head, you grew an interest in him
You then tried befriending him, of course, he casted you aside saying how much a pest you were being but your fiery ambitious didn’t stop
Since that day, you and Damian grew closer

Damian helped you discover more about your limits and powers
You grew stronger and started gaining control of your fire powers
With this came changes to your appearance
For example, as you were in your prime mode, Your skin and eyes emitted different hues of red and blue
Basically making you look like a walking flame
Continuing with you and Damian growing closer, it was hard for him to open up
but sooner or later you found out he was Robin, also key events from his past
You both fitted each other like you were made for one another
With his cold attitude and your fiery compassion, you guys were perfect together
I now believe that every Batman should have a white themed suit with ash-gray fluffy tufts and he shall be native to W. New Guinea and have their beautiful white hair and he only eats fruit. Behold, African FruitBat-man.
