My thoughts on whether nicholas is POC or just white , as a poc
I'm glad I wasn't alive before the civil rights movement because my dumbass would have been lynched by the first white who said anything.
Call me a n*gger, my response would definitely have been "um, actually, I'm a spic... So..."
And my family would never have seen me again.
Today I go get my Covid shot.
The weather is chilly so I'm wearing a fuzzy hoodie for warmth and Sensory stim.
It has a pouch pocket for my phone and cards.
My legs are covered in a complementary purple, too give my dark skin a nice look.
...
I hope to come back home alive. I hope to pass through the hospital doors safely and with ease. I hope the map layout is concise enough that I get to the location quickly and without unnerving anyone.
...
I wish I didn't have to consider these thoughts when I leave home.
I eat my delicious food, simple and colorful. My water lifted by carbonation and slight flavor. The music reverberating from my phone, to my fingertips.
I chew and understand that one day I'll be gone.
My Partners and Friends will become part dust, part rain.
The world still turns.
Be here now.
Savory everything.
I don’t get it
So I just watched the pilot episode for B99 after seeing a steady flow of gifs and memes on here and I have thoughts.
Thoughts like “am I watching this right?” Is B99 a white-centric show? Seriously though, what context do I need to understand that allows B99 to be comically appreciated given the actual, real time context of our society?
Because what I saw was a show that feels propagandist and attempting to aggressively distance policing institutions from the brutality and violence they cause. I mean, there was a joke about trigger-happy cops!! There was a joke about incentivizing incarceration!! In the FIRST EPISODE!
So idk. From the clips & gifs of it on Tumblr, B99 looks like a funny show, but idk if a funny precinct workplace comedy is wholesome given the ongoing experiences.
As a POC, all I could think of was that these characters were the same ones who stopped me in Arizona because I looked “illegal.” That they’re the same ones who pointed a gun at my Saudi friend because of a stupid bar fight. That they’re the same ones who detained my Black friend for a “disturbance” caused by refuting a racist white man’s harassment.
I don’t know if I can remove those personal experiences and anecdotes from people I care about and then feel comfortable watching B99. Does this make sense? Like, is this valid reasoning or is there a time/place context to this show I’m completely missing?
So if Superman gets (at least some of) his powers via solar radiation, why is he lily-ass white? Wouldn't it make more sense for him to be blacker than fuck (or at least have a healthy tan) because melanin as a biological pigment is better at absorbing light? This also fits because the red-dominant light that krypton's sun emits is the kind of light spectrum colors reflected (not absorbed) by melanin (i.e. why it appears reddish/brown and not ultraviolet). Thus, isn't Superman with a tan stronger than winter-goth Superman because he's not wasting his available power source by reflecting it into the eyes of anyone looking at him? It's a waste of sunlight that could be used to recharge his internal solar battery or whatever. Sure, there's kryptonian genetics and he wasn't born a person of color blah blah blah, but I'm just saying, according to science a black Superman could kick the shit out of regular Supes.
