My first printed book project!!

A Bad Day For Grumpy Goat

is almost ready to offer!!

I will be doing other tales too.  These are going to be offered at a low wholesale to convention folks as inexpensive convention merchandise.  They will also be available at the regular price to others.

The present book size is 8.5x5.5 inches (about 216x140 mm).

These will have a cover of a heavier gloss or matte finish and 20 lb bond pages and be stapled on the spine.

I am still researching ISBN numbers and such publishing details.

So far, everything is looking good!!

These will be made available by POD (Print On Demand).  On hand inventories of finished books will be small.

I may be open to doing other people’s stories and illustrated tales as well.  That will depend on later developments.

While off line, I got the printer files for Daring Do and the Gryphon’s Quest vols. 1 & 2 done.

It is slow work as yet.

I first sort out how many sheets of paper I will need.  Due to some fixed requirements, this is not quite straight forward.

Next, I make a “dummy book” of scrap paper with the number of sheets and do a real time page count, allowing for the fixed requirements.  When the page count works, I write the page numbers in the dummy.

Then I go to the file and use the dummy to guide cutting and pasting to get the right page numbers paired up so that the printer will in theory print the sheets on both sides so that when it is assembled, we will have a book with pages in the right order.

Saddle Stapler Project!!

The loose wooden block that the stapler is on will be a platform mounted to the upright on the right.

I will cut the stapler’s base off about at the hole on the right in its base.  The little staple folding anvil will be cut to a narrow strip and mounted to the middle of the saddle ridge.  The stapler will get mounted to the platform so that it will line up with the anvil on the ridge.

A folded book will go on the saddle and the stapler will always hit the spine of the book with this setup.

The whole thing needs to be epoxied together and some bracing put in to reinforce some joints.

With drying times for glue and some varnish, I expect to have it ready in 2 or 3 days.
