Shameless plug for some audio fanworks I was collaborating on this summer!
I participated in an event called @pod-together for the first time. Essentially, a writer and a podficcer get together to write/record a fanwork that is intended to be published in audio format.
I originally signed up to only do one fanwork, but I ended up doing some pinch hits, so I collabed on a total of three fanworks for PT!
The Diary of a Ship Cook in Unwilling Service to Captain Jack Sparrow
This is an epistolary format fic told from the POV of an OC ship cook who originally serves under Norrington in the Navy but somehow ends up tagging along with Jack and Will during Curse of the Black Pearl. @venbeth did an excellent job with the narration! He really captured how matter-of-fact the ship cook is when being kidnapped and confronting undead pirates…but then gets really huffy and emotional about food and good manners.
Today on HUNTR/X Number One Podcast: Are the Saja Boys demons???
This one is locked to AO3 users only, so you'll need to be logged into your AO3 account to read/listen/view it. A HUNTR/X fan who runs a podcast/podvid notices something fishy about HUNTR/X and the Saja Boys, so she starts to wonder…could the Saja Boys be demons??? (Nobody believes her because that's a crazy conspiracy theory, ahahahahaha. The Saja Boys are demons? Pffffft.) @annapods did a great job with acting, both physically and vocally! I also loooooove how she edited the sound effects at the very end…which I won't go into detail about, because spoilers. 👀
The two above were my pinch hits. This last one was my main PT project, the whole reason I signed up in the first place. It ended up being something of a behemoth, but I am so excited about it!
La Meowpera: A Tragedy In Three Acts
As you might surmise from the title, it's an opera…about cats! I would say the genre falls into the tragicomedy category; it's kind of a parody of grand opera, but it is also, as the title says, a tragedy. Very tropey, very soap opera-y.
And the music is AMAZING. There is a full cast of people singing the entire time, and they're all really damn good at it. There is original music scored by @farkenshnoffingottom. There is a Greek chorus narrating what happens. All the dialogue is sung/spoken entirely in "meows."
It's basically Crack Treated Seriously. The original premise sounds ridiculous, but everyone worked SUPER HARD on it! I am blown away by all the singers' performances. They were doing voice acting AND singing at the same time.
The whole thing is an hour long, but it's split into 3 chapters that are about 20 minutes each. I really hope you guys will give it a listen!
