For My Mother

Thank you for your love. 

those restless nights, 

all the sleep that you gave up.

Thank you for your gentle hand. 

You were slow to hit, 

quick to understand. 

-

Thank you for teaching me, 

for allowing failures, 

and the desire to succeed. 

-

Thank you for these brown eyes, 

and teaching them to spot a lie. 

-

Thank you for sharing your faith. 

For giving me time to grow, 

and always keeping me safe. 

-

I hope one day to resemble you. 

To walk in grace and beauty, too.
