I've been meaning to ask this for a while, so here goes: Is the fact that Bishop doesn't have a sense of smell important to the story? Like, is there a reason you decided to add that to her character? And also, will how she lost her sense of smell be revealed?

the timing of this ask was crazy (received a few days ago) i waited to answer it after i posted chapter 42 cause… yeah just read chapter 42 and it all ties together

as for how she lost her sense of smell, that is never revealed because i never found it necessary to the story, nor felt like it was something that needed to be explained.

Rumi: Coffee or Tea?

I’m a tea drinker! I tried coffee, but I’d put so much sugar and cream in it I don’t think it could be called coffee anymore. 

Andrew Marvell: What book do you own that has nostalgia for you and why?

I have a copy of “Creepers” by Joanne Dahme that was a gift to me from my parents for my golden birthday. I had been staring at the book for MONTHS at this local gift shop. At the time, I didn’t have money to buy books, really, so I was so happy when this book was gifted to me. It means a lot.

Petrarch:I write poems from the first-person narrative of people I don’t know, people I’ve never met or been acquainted with. I write from the perspective of mythological figures, historical figures, characters… 

Orlova:I know the secrets of changing of the seasons, the secrets of saffron and attar-of-roses, the secrets of spice and shadow. And there are other secrets I know… but the best secrets are always veiled in mystery and illusion. 

Stevens:It is necessary to be opinionated, whether or not you choose to air your opinion. It is necessary to tread the waters carefully, like a wood nymph navigating her sister’s seas. It is necessary to be outside for the first snow of the winter, when it feels fresh and new and eternal. It is necessary to read poetry that feels like honey and syrup in the summers. It is necessary to extend the hand of goodwill but also to know when to retract it, when the olive leaves fall off the branch. It is necessary... to be merciful and kind, but to also know when to save yourself.

Wordsworth:To me, when they’re used well and meaningfully, when they aren’t empty or lacklustre, they mean everything.

Marvell: The fact that my memories span three continents, that I speak and sing and dream in different languages, that I love words and spend hours reading poetry…
