Road Map
Her life was full of road maps.
Bright red lines from the present
Faded white lines from the past.
She never knew when she would add to it
however
Once the lines were drawn
There was no going back.
The lines traveled East to West.
Few to the North and South.
Her map stayed hidden.
It remained hidden until
She felt utterly and completely lost.
She would pull the map out
And add a new line.
She kept adding until
She felt grounded.
Once she found herself
She’d put the map away.
Her life was full of road maps
But they all led to the same place.
Flannel
You reach for me
When it’s cold
When you’re alone
When the world becomes
Too much.
My body swallows yours.
I lend you my heat.
I catch your tears.
My ends are worn
From covering your hands.
My appearance is soft
From your repeated visits.
I give
what comfort I have.
I provide
what reassurance I can.
I promise
That tomorrow will be better.
If not
I’ll be there
To do what I do best.

CRUSH (Junior Year 2016)
Crush [krush] "noun" 1. The act of crushing, the state of being crushed. Every hug, whether it was a greeting or good bye. Arms wrapped around crushing me into him. The time when tears unwillingly fell down hitting a small pile on the floor, where that folded sheet of paper set down at the foot of that cross naming all the chains holding me down. Arms crushing me to his side in comfort. 2. A great crowd. A tsunami. Water flooding my insides, drowning me in familiar, yet foreign emotions. The pressure crushing me further and further down. 3. "Informal" An intense but usually short lived infatuation. "Usually" short lived. It's been 3 years. "Three" when do you stop calling it a "crush" ? Crush (according to Urban Dictionary) 1. A burning desire to be with someone you find very attractive and extremely special. I have a "crush" on him. As many times tried to deny it. I have a "crush" on him From the "crushing" feeling of every hug, to being "crushed" when I saw him with her. From the "crushing" feeling of emotions, every time he smiles, laughs, talks. To unwanted day dreams of what it would be like together. I have a "crush" on him. Hiding under the title of "being (like) a sister" to him. Too scared to start a conversation when all that screaming is to ask him "How are you? How's your day?" Three years. Three years I've had this "crush". It's still there, crushing me in too deep.
We're doing poetry in English and as an exercise my teacher came up with "Onomatopoeia Day" in which all of us had to think of words that used onomatopoeia, but the catch was that once someone said a word you couldn't say it again. So we were going down the rows and by the time she got to the middle all of the obvious animal and sound noises were used and people started making things up. I shit you not, the very last person started saying the tardis noise and literally no one except me and my teacher understood. It wasn't really onomatopoeia, in my teachers opinion, but my teacher gave the kid extra credit for being a whovian.
The land may vary more; But wherever the truth may be--- The water comes ashore, And the people look at the sea.
"Neither Out Far Nor In Deep" by Robert Frost
Student: Is this poem (Ozymandias) about dinosaurs?
Me: No
Student: Oh...I wish it was.
