I was in awe of the mountains and hills of Slovenia when I travelled through four years ago. I knew I had to visit at least one. Thankfully my friend brought me to Pohorje on the first day. Went up by cable car 😉 and down on foot. Cramps for the next three days but it was worth it! Pohorje is a young mountain massif and is the southeasternmost part of the Central Alps. It's the only mountain chain in Slovenia made of silicate rock. It's home to forests, clearings, pastures, unspoiled Pohorje waters, waterfalls and moors with lakes, precious animal species and the largest butterfly in Europe (15-20cm) - giant peacock moth! Maribor Pohorje Ski Resort is the largest ski resort in Slovenia. Love, love, love the view of Maribor from Pohorje.
