Hello! How are you? I saw you posting a bit about POI and I was wondering, would you recommend it? I’ve never watched it, but I’ve been stuck on bly for so long that I think I need a little break from all the heartbreak. Anyways, hope you’re well, love all of your gifs!
Hi anon,
I am as well as can be expected in the midst of a global pandemic, but oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ thanks for checking in, though. I appreciate it
there are a couple routes to approaching POI.
I’m putting it under the cut because it gets long, ok?
1. Overall, I would say POI is one of those shows that needs a bit of time to develop its storylines, arc, and characters. The first two seasons are pretty much in single episode formula, and you don’t really miss that much if you jump from one episode to another. I have to be honest: it gets to a point where it becomes repetitive. Especially if you binge it compulsively and blast through the season in a couple days. That being said, it’s an okay background into seeing what kind of show it is.
2. The Root/Shaw aspect:
If you approach it from Root’s journey, then there are essential episodes that she makes appearances in the earlier seasons that are pertinent (you can see here for reference). Shaw started her appearances in Season 2, and then by 3 she’s a regular cast. If these two are the pull, be cautioned that you won’t see them until a while.
[The benefit of these two: I think their enemies-to-lovers trope was really well done. Their banter is such a delight, Amy Acker just oozes Root, and goddamn I do not really care for violence etc. etc. but her and Sarah Shahi delivered on the BAMF aspect. Respect].
3. I don’t think the show, as a whole, knew where to take the story/how they were going to shape the arcs, and you get to follow its journey from fragmented stories into one cohesive thing during 5 seasons. If that is time and energy you can and want to spend, I think the journey is well worth it.
4. Like a lot of older shows, it has its “that doesn’t age well at all” bits, and I noticed this within my rewatch period. Maybe it is important to keep in mind that POI was made and aired in 2011. Maybe not. But either way, it made some choices that (personally speaking) didn’t have to be made. I don’t think it takes away from the viewing experience, but I thought a heads up is warranted.
5. Man, to be perfectly honest, if you want a break from the heartbreak, that’s quite a delicate aspect. I really don’t want to spoil things, especially if you haven’t watched it, so if you would like me to elaborate, feel free to send me another message.
I got carried away but if you don’t feel like reading that whole thing, TL;DR: Yes, I would say it’s worth the watch.
Quick Question to my dear followers!
Would anyone be interested in some prints I have done for a con?
While I have a ton of the single prints left, the amount of booklets is VERY limited. (I have 4 left of each)
I just wanted to know if there might be some interest so I could possibly reprint and make an international sheet?
I kind of think, or hope, that Shaw's story did move forward in this episode. In the only way it could without her being saved. Only because we know part of her knew it was a simulation. And I think her speech at the end was more speaking to simulation Root. Saying that her safe place was in the simulation with Root to escape other torments outside of the simulation that we didn't see. "Do you know where we are?" Could mean do you know we're in a simulation? Or maybe i'm just wishing /:
Yeah that’s how I interpreted it as well, it’s like when Shaw asked Root where are they and Root said at her place, if I remember correctly that’s the first time Shaw starts to question her reality? I still just have so many mixed feelings about the ep, I think I need more than one day to sort out my thoughts, maybe watch it again when I’m ready
Simulation Finch and Reese seem pretty basic and not totally in character possibly cause Shaw hasn’t spent anytime with them in the simulations, so Samaritan hasn’t been able to get more info about them or their personalities. But it seems Root’s sim is pretty close cause Shaw spends all her time with Root in the simulations.
yeah I guess so, Samaritan is still so bad at it tho, it has nothing on The Machine i’m trying to lighten up the mood and failing miserably
Do you think we'll get another sex scene or a reencounter better than in shaw's head?
I certainly hope so, I don’t have hopes for a sex scene, but I do hope we get a real reunion - not only in a “not a simulation” kind of way, but a one that isn’t ooc and doesn’t feel forced yknow. So here’s to hoping.
Though the "sociopathic heart" was messed up. I sort of felt that it was what Shaw's mind had Root say so that she could in some way attempt give an explanation to herself as to why she had acted in certain ways - it not necessarily being the actual reason. The use of 'sociopathic' perhaps self stigmatisation. idk...just some of my jumbled up thoughts on it that i don't even really trust myself.
idk, may be the reason, but with how they used the term in the past and with the last Greg’s comment about Shaw being some sort of damaged goods (god I can’t even type it without getting sick and angry) I think we can safely assume it comes from a place of ableism and lack of knowledge ;/ Besides I don’t think it’s really my place to excuse it, cuz I don’t have the kinda pd Shaw has, but from what I’ve seen the people who do aren’t happy about the ep and their opinion is the one that matters the most.
