Yeesh, bruh.
I was tagged for 20 questions by @happymoomin, and I don’t normally do this sort of thing, but she asked so nicely, and the computer is being so uncooperative about loading pictures, that I’m just going to do it.
1. Peni. That’s pronounced just like the money and is misspelled a lot; but I credit having this name for my effortless comprehension of apostrophes, which people with names that don’t make unfortunate words if apostrophes are misused seem to have a hard time with.
2. Height: Not quite tall enough to reach the top shelf at the grocery store.
3. Orientation: Vertical at the moment. Horizontal when I’m tired. Bisexual all the time.
4. Favorite fruit: Peaches? Cherries? Strawberries? Plums? How’m I supposed to decide something like that?!
5. Favorite flower: See above. I love the way pittosporum and jasmine smell. I love the way bluebonnets fill the ditches. I love the way trumpet vine attracts hummingbirds and the way butterfly weed attracts butterflies. I miss peonies and tulips, which don’t grow well around here. I love how lantana and shrimp plant grow in my yard and don’t need tending. I love how redbud appears bright on bare boughs before any other sign of spring. They’re all so good!
6. Favorite seasons: Spring. I often feel crappy in spring, alas, but that’s the really good bird migration and the warblers and waterbirds all have their courting togs on.
7. Favorite scent: pittosporum, unless I’m hungry. Then I want to smell something baking, or onions and celery sauteeing in butter.
8. Favorite animal: Cats. Specifically, at the moment, the three kittens we just adopted because our cat of 17 years died in June, and we’re suckers and were in cat withdrawal.
9. Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Tea. Holey cheese, I love good strong unadorned black tea! But I’m not supposed to have caffeine because it makes my sleep disorder worse. :(
10. Average hours of sleep: (Shakes head, sighing.) I’m the worst insomniac you’ve ever met. Even if I could add together all the hours I got in a year and divided them by 365, it wouldn’t convey anything about my life.
11. Dog or cat person: Kitties! The dog is a noble animal, but he should be noble in somebody else’s yard.
12. How many blankets do you sleep with? None, 9/10 of the year. I live in Texas, after all.
13. Dream trip: My birding guru, another friend, and I rent a Winnebago and do all three Great Texas Coastal Birding trails during spring migration. We have no schedule. We bring a lot of staples with us and buy fresh produce and seafood when we find it. I do most of the cooking. We bird intensely morning and evening and in the afternoon we find a beach or a bookstore. We take turns driving and the driver picks the music; my friends don’t mind that it’s all Melissa Etheridge all the time when I’m driving, because otherwise I wouldn’t have the courage to drive a Winnebago. None of us has any Health Crap or financial worries, and when we check in with our husbands they have everything under control at home, but they miss us terribly. We get every single bird on every single checklist. Even the accidentals.
14. Blog created: Assuming you mean this tumblr, 2013. My writing blog, which is currently only sporadically maintained, dates to 2009.
15: Number of followers. 777 after blocking that pornbot this morning.
16: 5 Random Facts
1) The current batch of kittens are named Odin, Baldur, and Freya.
2) I don’t call my husband by his real name.
3) Sunday is Game With People Day.
4) I need to rebuy a number of books by Diana Wynn Jones, Tove Janssen, Lois McMaster Bujold, and J.R.R. Tolkien because I’ve read their covers off. Buying paperbacks is a mug’s game.
5) I’m too tired to tag anybody. Sorry.
@minutia-r tagged me in a 10 characters meme: List ten of your favorite characters in ten different fandoms and then tag ten people
I haven’t actually been a participatory fan of very many things, having grown up pre-internet and being singularly bad at the whole “talking to people about stuff” thing, and “favorites” is not really a concept I do; but let’s see how far I get.
1. My first big participation in fandom was The X-Files. Remember that cancerous abductee support group Scully met? It was all named after fans, and they chose my name, in its more usual spelling, for the one who gets the most lines! I don’t reckon I could be called a Big Name Fan in any real sense, but I was loud enough to be known as Rabid Scully Fan #1 to the creative team on that episode. I had (to a certain extent, still have) a crush on that character visible from space.
2. I figure a fandom’s a fandom, and Sims 2 counts when you spend as much time on it as I have in the last couple of years. For these purposes we must leave aside the ones I created and limit the choice to EAxis sims, which is easy: Vidcund Curious. As a fellow middle child I connect with him on a spiritual level. He always plays as a Crabby Nurturer for me, and that’s a type I’ve always loved.
3. Let’s go back. Waaaaaay back, to the Ur-fandom, the one most American girls are in by default: Little Women. No one is hateful in Little Women, but even now I’m grown up, my favorite is Beth. Her death haunts me as much as the deaths of people I’ve actually known, though the reasons have changed with the years. (By the way, Jo was quite right to reject Laurie’s proposal. The professor was a much better match.)
4. Vorkosigan Saga, Lois McMaster Bujold. This series is just one favorite character after another, but if we go for #1 on my list of Let’s See More of Her, that would be Taura. Weirdly, I just realized that this is for some of the same reasons Beth tops the list for Little Women, though at first glance you could hardly find two who were more different.
5. The Queen’s Thief by Megan Whelan Turner. Again, spoiled for choice. Irene/Attolia? Helen/Eddis? Nope, this one is too hard.
6. Diana Wynne Jones. Holey cheese, Diana Wynne Jones! This one is too hard. Does it get easier if I go for a single Role out of her Cast of Thousands? Assuming that the situation in “Caroline Oneir’s Hundredth Dream” roughly describes the author’s own process, it’s possible to pick out characters who are played by the same imaginary “actor.” Chrestomanci, Howl, and the Ogre, for example, have a lot in common, and of course we all recognize her Female Villain when we see her. But no, I can’t even generalize my way to an answer, because each “actor” figure, like a true actor, still plays a different individual each time and the truth is, most of them are wonderful and you really want to hang with them.
7. That Potter Kid’s Series. I’m not nearly the Potter fan most people are, possibly because I’ve been immersed in juvenile/YA literature for most of my life and there’s a lowest-common-denominator factor to its popularity. I’ve seen all this done before, and done better, too, by people who can’t afford castles in Scotland. But that’s neither here nor there - it’s a huge fandom, and I do have a favorite, and it’s Hermione.
8. Lord of the Rings. Samwise Gamgee, from the word Go.
9. Star Wars. Artoo-Detoo is the true hero of that franchise.
10. Star Trek. Never a dyed-in-the-wool Trekker, but - Bones. Original Bones, not those Abrams imposters.
And now I have to tag 10 people, which is where the activity list is handy - tag the last 10 people on it and I’m done. So, @simsofsimcity, @savannahsimslover, @lauratje86, @katatty, @simblrkersil, @nerianasims,
@holleyberry, @natteryaktoad, @earlypleasantview, @jackssims.

Only yesterday Manni was enjoying the nice weather, but when I woke up this morning it was snowing. I just love how Mother Nature can’t make her mind, so she gives us slushy weather instead <3
