The first twenty times I listened to this album, I got chills all over during the opening track, "Poison Root," listening to Alex Giannascoli's unexpected experiment with banjo and violin Americana slowly fill my empty shell of a body with alternating shivers and warmth as a dog barked in the background. And my love of this album continued to grow as I gave it listen after listen, particularly within the month of its release mid-May when I was preparing to graduate from UCLA into a totally uncertain future. I played this album over and over as I prepared to rip myself away from everything I had built and loved in LA, hearing his voice nail that never-quite-ready-for-this feeling as he droned Poison Root's final refrain, "Now I know everything. Now I know everything."
